It seems my coleauge needs something to give a logfile a unique file name in a batch file. He has used FDATE on his 98 PC but the 'seconds since 1.1.90' switch don't work on NT.

So I guess I'm looking for something simple.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Rocco

Kinda long, but here is a script that should get you rolling..

You maybe able to search this newsgroup for an answer too..

well, seconds since 2000/1/1 would do that.

getting approx (if only wanted is the uniqueness):
$secs= (((ydayno+((year-2000)*366))*24)*60)*60

if it can't be "script" but rather wanted as program, make it selfexecuting selfextracting compressed package...

example with winrar.

Lonkero,

Its in an existing BAT file and I don't want to rewrite the whole thing for him in KIX (even though I think that would be the best way to go).

This is what I came up with from this link...and this one...

{edit}
Thanks Kent for that link to http://www.robvanderwoude.com/datetime.html. That's actually already in my favorites [Wink] .
I've noticed that as peeps share links on this board that I have some of the same links in my favs already, kinda cool, we all find the same resources at one time or another.
{/edit}

code:
@ECHO OFF

REM Create the date and time elements.
For /f "tokens=1-7 delims=:/-, " %%i in ('echo exit^|cmd /q /k"prompt $D $T"') do (
For /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/-,() skip=1" %%a in ('echo.^|date') do (
set dow=%%i
set %%a=%%j
set %%b=%%k
set %%c=%%l
set hh=%%m
set min=%%n
set ss=%%o
)
)

SET FILE=TestFile%HH%%MM%%SS%.log

ECHO This is a test >> %FILE%

:END

Well that ought to do what he wants anyway (and he's the developer?)

Thanks,
Rocco
