This works fine in NT, W95 ignores it. RPC is running on all controllers and I installed all the required dll's to netlogon folders

Kix16.dll
Kix32.dll
Kix95.dll
Kix32.exe
kixtart.kix
kxrpc.exe
john.bat
msvcrt.dll

The reason it is not running escapes me. Does everything look right here? Thanks

This is my logon script (john.bat)
@echo off

%0\..\Kix32.exe %0\..\john.kix

REM Map Enterprise Drive (G
echo Mapping your G: Drive
net use g: \\server_common\g

REM Microsoft Systems Management Server (start)
REM SMS Build 1239
call %0\..\smsls
REM Microsoft Systems Management Server (end)

This is my Kixtart script (john.kix)
use H: "\\server_ghost\%username%"

If ingroup("quadmed")
use L: "\\server_quad\quadramed"
EndIf

Try this:
%0\..\Kix32 john
and not:
%0\..\Kix32.exe %0\..\john.kix

Plus I don't see anything that should require you running the RPC service - just run KIX.

Having gone though this just recently while installing and setting up Kixtart, Here is what I found for WIN95 and WIN98 machines

1)%0\..\Kix32.exe %0\..\john.kix is correct.
%0\..\Kix32.exe john.kix rarely worked on my machines.

2) KX32, KX16 and KX95.dll needs to be in the windows system folder.

3) Make sure MSVCRT.DLL is present in c:\windows\system

4)Don't forget the KIXtart.INI file in netlogon for the KIXRPC mappings If possible write the SET KIXRPC statement to autoexec.bat or in the beginning of the login batch file (if its in the login batch file use WINSET). You can also write it to the registry.

5) use the EXIT command at the end of your file.

6) I ound that lmscript emulation also helps it run more reliable and faster on WIN9x stations

Kix is still not responding on 95 wkstns. I have kixrpc running on controllers, I copied dll's to local wkstn's. Does anyone have any idea as to why this is happening? I'm baffled.

Thanks

Here is my script(s)

john.bat (logon script)
@echo off

REM Determine OS Type for Drive mappings
if Windows_NT == %OS% goto NT > nul

set kxrpc=\\server_mhn

REM %0\..\ is the netlogon-share
If not exist c:\windows\kx16.dll copy %0\..\kx16.dll
If not exist c:\windows\kx32.dll copy %0\..\kx32.dll
If not exist c:\windows\kix32.exe copy %0\..\kix32.exe
If not exist c:\windows\kx95.dll copy %0\..\kx95.dll

pause
call %0\..\kix32.exe %0\..\john.kix

john.kix (kix script)
If ingroup ("quadmed")
use L: "\\server_quad\quadramed"
EndIf

exit

Try deleteing KX95.dll, KX32.DLL, and KX16.DLL from the windows directory and put them in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory

Does the john.bat run okay?
Is getting to the point of running kix32?

If so use -d after kix command for debug and see where it stops.

You may try running "kix32 john -d" from a DOS window after logging on, to see if it will run okay.

This is the only way I know to trouble shoot...

I am having similar problems....

Running a multiple OS environment. Runs fine under NT and 2000 but it periodically works under 9X based systems.

I also initialize Kixtart and Script from a bat file.

The weird fact is that it periodically runs which is wierd. If you find it isn't running, what has worked many times is to type in a bad password and then when you're prompted that it is a bad pwd type in the good one. Maybe this is merely coincidence! But generally I've been experiencing the same thing. Thank god it only effecting 15 of our 165 systems!!!!

The initialization is as follows everything from netlogon shares(kixtart.bat)

setkrpc = \\server
map z: \\server\netlogon
z:\kixtart.exe z:\kixtart.kix

Can run the script manually by browsing to the netlogon share and running the bat file but wont initialize.......
