Here is part of the code of the YAMD Function.

code:
:WAITFORREG ; ******* Wait for windows to create the reg keys
$RC=READVALUE("$LABELKEY\$DRIVELETTER\_LABELFROMREG","CACHE")
IF @ERROR OR $RC="" OR $TIMEOUT<5
$TIMEOUT=$TIMEOUT+1
SLEEP(1)
GOTO WAITFORREG
ENDIF

My question is if the _LABELFROMREG key does not exist, the script seems to loop forever.

Any suggestions?

this is supposed to wait for the OS to create the key... the $timeout is supposed to max it out at 5 seconds

It does not seem to be timing out...It has been running for over 1 hour. It checked the registry and the key does not exist.

I am running KIXtart 4.10 on Windows 2000 SP2.

Also if I close it, it logs me off of the computer...which makes it hard to debug. I tried the debug switch but it does not help.

Put a BREAK ON into the first line of your script, this will prevent KIXtart from logging you out when closing the script.

try changing:
IF @ERROR OR $RC="" OR $TIMEOUT
to
IF @ERROR AND $RC="" AND $TIMEOUT<5

cheers...
I think there is little brain syntax error... [Big Grin]

I print a PRINT TO CONSOLE command in there and the $TIMEOUT value is increasing...but it goes right past 5 and never stop...

Lonkero, I will try your suggestion and let you know...

Thanks,

Arnold

arnold, like I said, there is little problem in that part of script.
it waits until 5 seconds has passed.
and it also waits that all other things are good.

so that's why there is is the infinite loop.
that my and stuff is not the ultimate solution but it can get it to stop after the 5 sec timeout.

Lonkero,

Your suggestion worked. I also lowered the timeout to 3 seconds (5 seems too long). Especially the more drives that are mapped.

A couple of side questions:

1. Why doesn't the UDF Forum contain the YAMD Function and other functions that I see in other posts?...I thought it was supposed to be a library of scripts.

2. Is there any way to distinguish MS Office XP from MS Office XP SP1 and from patched versions of Word & Excel?

3. Is there any way to check the Virus Signatures of Norton Antivirus 7.6 CE client on Windows 2000 and compare it against a Windows 2000 Server running the same software (but Server instead of Client) and then update it if necessary using KIXtart? I want this to make sure our VPN users have the latest virus signatures.

4. I wonder if the KIXtart GODS (the experts) could write a KIXtart Script Checker which would check against things like missing ENDIF, ENDFUNCTION, etc...maybe there is already such a thing...

Thanks to everyone for their help,

Arnold

But it is there, see http://81.17.37.55/board/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=000163
You might need to adjust the 'Show Topics from Last xxx Days' to see posts that are older than what you have currently selected.

Yes, you can check the product version numbers of the executables. Or you can use an administrative install and advertise updates to the administrative install (more complicated to set up).

Isn't that part of the CE version, that you can force AV updates? I beloeve there's a batch file with the CE distribution that does this. Otherwise, search this BBS for posts about NAV CE, there are a couple.

And this one does exist, too. just take a look at pretty much any of MCA's posts who uses this extensively. Or check out http://81.17.37.55/board/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=000269 and http://home.wanadoo.nl/scripting/. The magic word is 'KiXStrip'

a quickie for the first question:
they all are there.
it's not board for scripts but for functions that are user defined (not built into kixtart)

you probably wont see them for two reasons:
your menubox of showing topics does not include old udf's
the pages are many.

for gettting some udf out from udf library you can try searching it.

YAMD can be searched by the selections:
YAMD
search only title
search any date
search udf-forum

cheers

Can you make me a version for my wireless Palm, too? Not that I have a wireless one, but that would definitely be a nice feature in order to keep up this strenuous posting race. [Wink]

that's not a problem.
all I need to do, is to determine what objects can be called to get the stuff from net...

if it's not supporting kix, then I would need to know how well it supports TCL (I still hate perl)...
not so many stuff needed for version 1 functionality.

for version II it would be some months work.

{edit}
btw,
have you any idea how to reduce the firewall security when you are drunk?
I made the main config in such way that all not mentioned exceptions are denyed, including ping...
just can't get my bloody web server open to world!

Jooel,
Tried again to hit your site but still no-go.

Kicks,
The reg loc "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion" holds a valuename "UsingPattern" that holds the data. The parent server has the same reg valuename.

K,
Symantec has a tech doc on where to copy the .vdb file.

So, you have another 15 hours and 40 minutes ahead of you. That should be enough time to open a firewall (have you tried a prybar?). [Big Grin]

K,
More on NAV CE...

Check out NTDOC's script in the thread Topic: Checking the Registry (last post). It is preferential to check the reg for the path than hard-code it.

Also, check out my script Topic: NAV Pattern FTP Script RFC to get more frequent pattern updates to your server.

Everyone thanks for the help with all of the posts...

Lonkero,

While your change does fix the problem I was having with the script hanging. It seems to have disabled the part where the script changes the registry to relabel the network drives. This was the key reason I was using this function. Also when is XP supposed to be added? If you are not the right person to be asking forgive me, and please direct me to them.
