If you go to 'Control Panel - System - Network Identification', does the 'Full Computer Name' show up correctly? It sound contain a FQDN (fully qualified domain name). It sounds like your TCP/IP setup is not entirely correct.
Also, please get rid of NetBEUI, it's evil, a non-routable protocol, doesn't help you in your situation, and it's slooowwww.
