Dear,
Based on an earlier reaction some good questions are:
- who support the third party kixtart tools like f.e. KixGui, kixcrypt, kixref & kixstrip?
- what are the most common used tools?
Most of those tools are voluntary work and are distributing as freeware. Mostly it means, that it can't have always the highest priority. To support their work we will keep a short poll about the most common tools we found by kixtart related sites. The result can stimulate them in supporting their creations. Supporting becomes more important, when it is an element of your script execution. An example of it can be the KixGui software. Also a high level of support is wanted, when all kind of new commands, func- tions, macros and structures are influencing those software. An example of it can be Kixref & Kixstrip. In some situations support isn't necessary at all, because - product is completed. - good alternatives are available. So it will be nice when we collects information about. In the poll: - we reference to the tools we find in the topics and on kixtart related sites. - who is creator - can "tool" be modified by you A short list of tools, add-ons, etc.:
code:
- kixcrypt/wkixcrypt (Richard Howard) - kixref (MCA) - kixstrip (MCA) - kix__update (MCA) - kix__registry (MCA) - wkix4_update (MCA) - kixlib32 (Shawn) - kixwin32 (Shawn / kixtart 3.63 / F2-891) - kixforms (Shawn) - kixwinvb (Alex.H / kixtart 4 / F2-2664) - kixgui (Alex.H) - kixhelp.chm (Scriptlogic) - kix_starters_guide (Bryce) - BBCodeParser (Lonkero) - SU (Bryce) - Bat2exec/secure21
- FAQ forum "kixtart.org" - UDF forum "kixtart.org" - UDF library "www.scriptlogic.com"
For each of above items we want to know how regular you are using it. Of course it is possible that some of them were becoming obsolete. Please take you time. You help the creators with that kind of infor- mation.
Of course it is possible that above information is incomplete. Please members make the information of your tools complete. Make it complete with - who are the creators - what are the requirements - what is current version - when was the last release - what is the primary source (f.e. url-link) and are the related main kixtart.org topics - what will be the support level When you are using other tools except editors on a frequent base please tell which one. greetings.
We will close the poll Saturday July 20th, 2002.

Dear Chris,
The problem with polls is: you can't extend or modify them? The good thing is that we get a list of tools and add-ons, which - has the same names - becomes obsolete - alternative can be used Also we hope to get enough information about those tools. An example for kixstrip can be
- authors: MCA
- current release: kixstrip 3.13 for 3.63, 4.0x, 4.10
July 5th, 2002 - source: http://home.wanadoo.nl/scripting
- documentation: none, see symbol
on our homepage has been linked to related http://kixtart.org topic. - requirements user: none
- requirements developper: it is using the keyword tables and block structures
of different kixtart releases, which results in different releases. - support-level (range 1-9): 7
- support:
- improvements will made based on forum and mail reactions. - guarantee compatibility with latest kixtart release - guarantee backwards compatibility. - trying to return results which doesn't require additional users action before using it - restrictions in usage
- filenames must be 8.3 format - destination file will automatically overwritten - how to get inform about new releases:
- as a member of site we inform you about significant changes to our site. - see main kixtart.org topics - main kixtart.org topics

Dear JackLothian,
Your last choose is the good one. The differences are
- always:
examples: - before running a script we verify it always with our kixstrip and kixref tools - by releasing a new script we are using KiXcrypt, which can mean also we use it only once a month - regular (can interpretate as sometimes):
normally you aren't using the tool/script, because you doesn't have problems with your own solution. an example of it can be: kix???update.exe for updating your clients. - none
you are using alternative for it, or you doesn't need it. - no opinion
you have never heard of it, or you doesn't know actually the possibilities of it.
greetings.

Dear, Thanks for voting. The results (no opinion | always | regular | never): code:
6 1 5 16 1. kixcrypt/wkixcrypt (Richard Howard) for encrypting/decrypting script 2. kixref (MCA) for creating cross-reference and warning list 7 1 5 15 a - kixref (MCA) for creating cross-reference map 6 3 4 15 b - kixref (MCA) for translating keywords 7 2 3 16 c - kixref (MCA) for creating a warning list 3. kixstrip (MCA) for checking, compressing, reformatting and debugging of your script 5 4 9 10 a - kixstrip (MCA) for checking your script 5 2 3 18 b - kixstrip (MCA) for compressing your script 3 4 10 11 c - kixstrip (MCA) for debugging script 6 2 3 17 d - kixstrip (MCA) for performance analyse of your script 5 3 5 15 e - kixstrip (MCA) for reformatting your script 6 2 1 19 4. kixcheck (MCA) for verifying the correctness of client installations 5 4 3 16 5. kix__update (MCA) for installing kixtart on clients 5 4 0 19 6. kix__registry (MCA) for installing kixtart on clients with file-associations 7 1 2 18 7. wkix4_update (MCA) for installing console-less kixtart version on your clients 6 1 2 19 8. kixlib32 (Shawn) gui add-ons 5 2 2 19 9. kixwin32 (Shawn / kixtart 3.63 / F2-891) gui add-ons 3 5 7 13 10. kixforms (Shawn) gui add-ons 6 1 0 21 11. kixwinvb (Alex.H / kixtart 4 / F2-2664) gui add-ons 4 4 5 15 12. kixgui (Alex.H) gui add-ons 1 14 9 4 13. kixhelp.chm (Scriptlogic) online documentation 0 17 9 2 14. kix2001.doc (Ruud v Velsen) original documentation. the Bible of KiXtart 2 2 8 16 15. kix_starters_guide (Bryce) kixtart guide for beginners 5 1 5 16 16. BBCodeParser (Lonkero) for an easy way of cut-n-paste of kixtart.org topic code 4 0 7 17 17. SU (Bryce) for running script with f.e. administrator rights 5 0 4 19 18. Bat2exec/secure21 (other) for making your BAT, COM & EXE files secure . 0 9 16 3 19. FAQ forum "kixtart.org" 0 11 15 2 20. UDF forum "kixtart.org" 1 3 17 7 21. UDF library "www.scriptlogic.com" . . kixtart 4.10 13 kixtart 4.02 12 kixtart 4.00 0 kixtart 3.6x 3 kixtart 3.5x 0 kixtart 3.4x 0
Some conclusions:
- the original documentation and online help are very useful. Hardly
everybody is using them. The Starters Guide from Bryce supplies a need. - the FAQ and UDFs forum are visiting very regular.
- security of your scripts doesn't seems to be a high issue. the
capabilities of SU are in some situations very necessary. - the possibilities of translating keywords by kixref and
checking, debugging and reformatting of kixstrip are the used once for both tools. - for the installation of kixtart files the most of you are
using their own method. - the GUIs becomes popular. some of them are using the old ones.
- most of them are using the latest kixtart releases. only a very
few of them are using kixtart 3.6x.
Of course 28 voters isn't a high number, but it returns an idea. greetings. (our reaction 3500 to the board) [ 21 July 2002, 22:02: Message edited by: MCA ]

Wow!! Amazing... Over 5,000 members and only 28 voters. Now we see how the Politicians feel, when less the 20% turn out to vote for many positions or bills.
Is that APATHY?
Oh! well - Hopefully the many helpful and friendly members that are active, remain that way.

Dear NTDOC,
Indeed, it seems that nearly the TOP25 had voted. The advantage is this top represent over 50% of all reactions. Possible most of them doesn't want to have influence on those tools. greetings.
