Dear all,

I'm new in Kixtart language and would like your kindly help.

We would like to develope a Kixtart script running in both NT and Win9x environment. We are in a single domain environment, kxrpc was installed and started on both PDC/BDCs. Our Win9x clients have set kxrpc=\\BDCserver1,\\PDCserver2 in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and kx95.dll situate in Windows directory. The script will generally detect users' group membership and map to different drive.

Here is the script:
--------------------------------------------

use e: \\ahk_sales_nt3\macapps

?"Account : @LDOMAIN\@USERID"
IF INGROUP ("domain\Gobal Group Users")
?"In Group - Gobal Group Users!"
use s: \\servername\shared$
ELSE
?"Not in group - Gobal Group Users!"
ENDIF

IF INGROUP ("domain\Local Group Users")
?"In Group - Local Group Users!"
use s: \\servername\shared$
ELSE
?"Not in group - Local Group Users!"
ENDIF

EXIT
--------------------------------------------

The script works properly in NT workstation environment but groups membership cannot be identified in Win9x environment.

Anyone can help on these? Is it wrong in the kxrpc installation?

Thanks.

Hi Tony

Welcome to Kixtart.to

Are the missing "" from use s: use s: \\servername\shared$ typo errors or is that how the script looks? Should be use s: "\\servername\shared$"

You mention "kx95.dll situate in Windows directory" do you have the other .dll's in Windows dir too?

Have you got a sacrificial Win9x box you can use to debug your scripts on? That way you can step thru your code line by line and trap errors using a variable and have the variable output to screen if an error exists.

Sorry for to answer a question with more questions BTW.

have you tried this

if ingroup("domain\group") = 1
....
endif

This would be the proper way to test for group membership. Since the ingroup("group") will be returning a return code, this code is what you are checking for in your IF ... statements.

does @ldrive have a value assigned to it on the 95 computers?

Bryce

Thanks for input, DDavidson and Bryce!

I've tried what you suggested, drive mapping works fine after I put "" in.

I've put kix32.exe, kx16.dll, kx32.dll and kx95.dll in Windows directory also in PDC/BDCs systems directory but the script ran the same as before.

I also tried to run the script in debug mode, no error was found and the script logic seem ran smooth. The only problem is Windows 9x cannot identify my group (both Local/Global group) membership hence the @ingroup function always return false. I believe there is something wrong in KXRPC, it was installed and started however no @fullname, @ldrive or @lserver, etc. information can be retrieved in Win9x environment.

I followed the manual step by step, copied kxrpc.exe into the PDC and BDCs. Start them well and set environmental variable in to those server in Win9x workstation's Autoexec.bat but nothing help.

Any way I can check if my KXRPC is running properly?

In AUTOEXEC.BAT of Windows 95 machine, I include this line:

set kxrpc=\\MyPDC,\\MyBDC

also, I tried to create a Kixtart.ini file in the Windows directory:

[KXRPCMapping]
DomainName=\\PDCServer

Default=\\PDCServer,\\BDCServer

However, it won't help... Any idea?

Thanks.

Hmmm

To be completely honest with you, I don't do what you have done.

Try it without the settings in autoexec.bat and the ini file.
Or have you already?

Hi

So reading the manual It says "If the Kixtart RPC service cannot be installed on all logon servers, Kixtart must be directed to locate a specific server running the service."

Is this your case? and is this why you had to do the Environmen Variable etc?

Thanks for reply.

Yes, our company is a single domain environment. There is only one PDC in US and hundreds of BDCs all over the world.

Meanwhile, I would like to implement Kixtart in Asia Pacific region only. So, I installed KXRPC into all BDCs in Asia Pacific and PDC in US. That's why I have to use environmental variable or ini file.
