Okay, I've got an annoying one. I searched, browsed, couldn't find anything like my problem (I'm a mod on opieanthony.com, so I know the drill).... so I'm posting it.
Okay, here's the deal.
I'm no stranger to Kixtart, but I haven't played with 4.x until now.
I've written a script that really (for now) doesn't do anything too drastic. FULLNAME, LDOMAIN, LSERVER, WKSTA, some "use" commands.
The problem - Wkix32, on some 9x workstations - not all - crashes. Seems to be when it hits a macro, usually the @FULLNAME. But I acn remark that line and it still crashes, I don't recall where.
RPC service is installed on the PDC and BDC, and both servers have been rebooted since it was installed.
NETLOGON share has all the Kix files... kx16, kx32, kx95, kix32, wkix32, kxrpc.
It works fine on NT and 2000. It also works fine if I use kix32 instead of wkix32.
Does anyone have a solution? Or perhaps a link to an old thread I missed?
Also - in lieu of a solution - does anyone know how to make it so kix32 doesn't automatically minimize itself on Windows 2000? I've tried SETCONSOLE on Foreground and Show, didn't work. Maximize may be the answer but that's maximizing.. I'd like it to remain a window.
Thanks...

Thanks a lot folks...
My brain is a bit burned out after today, but I will definitely try out your suggestions and take a fresh crack at it on Monday.
And as far as the GPO's go.... I'm not running a 2000 domain yet, so I'll have to do it the annoying way... Hell, might as well just have Kix do it for me!
The machines that wkix32 crashed on were 98SE, I'm fairly sure. As for what updates are installed on them, I really couldn't tell ya. Unfortunately these people get quite into that "work" thing, making it tough to play with their machines.... no one cares about the lowly IT guy.. haha...

Thank you - it seems that the START /W is working perfectly (so far). I'll post again if I get any more problems... I knew this would be the place to find my answer!
Of course, had I read the kix2001.doc closer, I would have found it, huh? Oh well...

Dear,
Also a welcome to the board.
An amount of questions has specially to deal with not reading the specific notes in the manual. During the reading of new manual releases we find manytimes that Ruud adds or extends the NOTE messages. We advise everybody always read the NOTE message in latest manual. Even for experience users it can be usefull sometimes. Latest release contains f.e. following interesting parts: - the requirement of kixtart DLLs and to make sure to replace all components. - kix32 supports DrWatson functionality of Windows XP. - info about the influence antivirus software on kixtart. - group-membership information and information cache. - the HKEY_PERFORMANCE_DATA may become a new registry hive in the future. - it contains already elements of new .net os. greetings.
btw: search on the beta forum for our comment on new manual releases. the latest one was: http://81.17.37.55/board/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=000301
