Hi,
i'm not an programmer or scripter ;\)
I'm an poor CAD-Admin in a plant with a problem about Kixtart.
At approx. 25 workstations i've an error at the Windows eventviewer
about kixtart. It's in german. Sorry that i can't translate it fully.
I copie this original Error description.
I hope someone can help me.

Failed to create cookie Error : Zugriff verweigert (0x5/5)"

Thanks for your help.

It looks like you are running an older script that is trying to create a cookie but it fails due to insufficient permissions. This an old command that is no longer needed (at least I never needed to use it for the past 15+ years).

I don’t know the size and contents of the script but maybe you can post it here for a review of what it is doing and possibly a fix for the issues you are experiencing?

Hi Mart,
thanks for your answer.
Could you tell me, where i can find this script?

I'm a normal user, who can read the eventlog from Windows....
Our CAD users have "power user" permissions, not admin rights.
They have the kixtart Event message at the windows eventlog.
Some other users with admin right at their Workstation haven't this message.
Could it be a Problem with the domain or user rights in our network?

That depends on what kind of script it is. If it is a logon script, it should be in \\EnterYourDomainNameHere\netlogon. If not, then it can be anywhere.

after i've entered
\\EnterYourDomainNameHere\netlogon
i get
Der Netzwerkpfad wurde nicht gefunden
The network path was not found

I'm confused

Could it be something with our Network?
Or a Login script?
Or could it be also with a program, which is installed?

Hi Dj,

 Quote:
Running KiXtart with Lmscript Emulation
Normally, when a user logs on to a LAN Manager or Windows NT domain from Windows 9x, the Windows API responsible for processing the logon request starts a program called Lmscript to run the logon script. The sole responsibility of Lmscript is to inform the logon API when the logon script has finished by creating a semaphore file (also called a cookie).

Unfortunately, the original Lmscript.exe takes up a lot of memory. To solve this issue, KiXtart can be used as a replacement for Lmscript.exe. This not only saves memory, but also means that the Kix32.exe does not have to be read from the network during the logon sequence, as it is automtically run from the local hard disk. The benefit of this is minimal in a normal LAN environment, but can be substantial in a WAN or RAS environment.
To enable Lmscript emulation on computers running Windows 9x
1. In the Windows\System folder, rename the original Lmscript.exe.
2. Rename Kix32.exe to Lmscript.exe and then copy it to the Windows\System folder.
3. In User Manager, in the Logon Script Name box, specify a KiXtart script as the logon script for the user (for example, Kixtart).
4. At the end of the specified KiX script, add a line containing the COOKIE1 command to create the semaphore file.

Zusammenfassend: Wenn du das verantwortliche Script ausfindig gemacht hast (hier können wir nur schwer helfen) dann lösche einfach den entsprechenden Eintrag raus (Hier das Keyword (aus der aktuellen Doku) :

 Quote:

COOKIE1
Action
Supported for backward compatibility only.

Hoffe das hilft dir ;\)

for the native english speakers: yadda yadda, deprecated, delete COOKIE1 from script

Edit Reason: Logon script .. most likely!

The fact that you are not a SysAdmin shows but that’s ok. If we were all SysAdmins we would all be out of a job. We cannot all have the same job.

You should change the EnterYourDomainNamehere part with the actual name of your domain. Like Jochen said it is very difficult (as good as impossible) for us to say where the script is located as it can be anywhere on the system or the network if it is not a logon script.

Hi Mart
Hi Jochen,

thanks for your help!!

I've understand to replace <EnterYourDomainNameHere> with my logon name
I've typed in
\\tmueller\netlogon
and get
Der Netzwerkpfad wurde nicht gefunden
The network path was not found

@Jochen

For the english Speakers: Explanation why and to whom i've send Jochens german declaration

Once more, thanks for your Support!

Morning Dj,

switching back to english, it should be more like:

\\yourcadcompanyname.de\netlogon

you should look for files with the extension .kix or even .scr and maybe .kx (if it is .kx you cannot edit the file)

Ok, it needs to be the domain name used internally. The website may be solidline.de but I guess internally they used something different because in my book it is best practice to not use public domains on the local network. Something like solidline.local or something might be used.

To find this you can do the following:
Start a command window (start-->all programs-->accessories-->command prompt);
Type: Set and press enter;
Find what is listed after USERDOMAIN=

This is your internal domain name.

When does the error occur? Every time a user logs in?

Can i wrote down our userdomain here? It looks diffrent to our web-adress.

Yes, every time when a user logs in, the Kixtart error occures.

I've attached the two logon events with the error result.

The solidline.de isn't our Company Domain.
It's the domain wehre we get the Lizenz from our CAD add on.
In the meantime, i've understand where we have to look about the error, i think.

Yes, the userdomain is in most cases the domain that the computer is in. Some exceptions can be made with a domain forest and trusts etc... but I think this is not in use in your setup.

Ok if it is at logon then it will most likely be a logon script that should be located in \\EnterTheUserDomainHere\netlogon. If the script files are not encrypted you should be able to open them with notepad for example, read the contents and take out all the COOKIE1 commands. Regular users cannot write to that location so you may need an admin to save the changes if you do not have permissions to write there yourself.

You login.bat should be in the same location as your kixtart file. On your workstation, you may have to open a command prompt and enter:
 Code:
net use H: \\EnterYourDomainHere\netlogon
h:
dir
(use an unused drive letter) in order to see the files there.

You can find that in \\EnterTheNameOfYourDCHere\Netlogon or \\EnterYourDomainHere\netlogon. Both folders are basically the same. The domain version ensures that you get the stuff from the domain controller that is closest to your location or has the fastest response time at that moment.
The login.bat file will most likely start the kixtart script.

One question about our Kix Files.

Are these files the latest releases?
We have a Windows Server 2012 R2

Uh oh.
All the dlls need to go.

And the kix32 and wkix32 should be replaced (this step is not 100% necessary)

From this picture one can deduct that for a decade you have not had anyone working on the domain that knows what goes on under the hood...

Don't need a batch either. Can simply run the following there in the user AD profile

wkix32.exe login.kix
