I'll push the ZIP file shortly.. it's worked well in our environment. There's one minor downside - the Wkix32 process can be seen on the taskbar, which some of our users have questioned.
As for security, we run this as a tokenized script, and it runs in the User context. We have other utilities that run in the System context that are more secure but needed to communicate with the user, so this was a simple solution.
I actually used this concept and wrapped it in a KixForms (classic) script that now launches from the Start Menu and sits in the System Tray. It's barely noticeable.
The user can pop it up and get status on the background processes that ran on their system as well as have it receive communications with the System process.. It's got quite a bit of proprietary stuff in it now so I won't be publishing that version, but I started with an example right off the KF site and had it running in the system tray in about 15 minutes. It's not difficult at all.
