Hello Fellow Engineers,

I have been searching the net for a script or a tutorial on how to create a Java 7 registry based white list that I can wrap into the Login Script and also copy locally to individual consoles.

I'm fairly new to scripting with KixTart but am willing to learn/master the language. I need but only a wise KixTart Sensei to guide me in the right direction.

Thank you in advanced from one nerd to another \:\)

There's a Fundamentals of Scripting guide on my web site that can jump-start your scripting adventure - browse to the IT Resources / How-To section. The examples are all Kix-based, even though the content is generic enough for most languages.

More specifics on your requirement would help.. I assume you want to dynamically create reg entries or you might have just used a .REG file. There are a lot of ways to do this. Give us some plain English to outline the logic.

Welcome to KORG, BTW, and - FYI, the "t" is lower case. \:D

Good Morning Glenn,

Thank you for the reply, I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I'm checking out your web site now give me a few minutes to read through it and ill be back.

But as for the *maintenance script (correction from my original post) I would need it to dynamically create reg entries

Something that could have report when queried to a .csv file during log-on.

Thanks for the warm welcome Glenn and dually noted *KiXtart

UDFs will become your best friend.. These are "User Defined Functions" and there are hundreds available. My entire UDF library is published nightly at 8pm EDT. Many, many more are here on KORG.

Search for a UDF, copy/paste it into your code and call it like any other Kix function. The first that comes to mind is the CSV UDF, which converts between an array of data and a CSV formatted text string (and Vice Versa).

You might also review the use of Read and WriteProfileString to manipulate INI files. These can be looked at as a very simple database, with Sections as Tables, Values as Records, and the data referenced by the value as the fields. This is particularly true if you use CSV formatted data in the values!

Kix makes this much easier than many other languages, with embedded support for INI and Registry manipulation.

Again - provide us with the concepts and we'll help.. Pseudo-code, as shown below, is very helpful.

Read file, get XXX data
Check registry, if not found, add
Process next

Glenn
