Hi

i would like to include an animated GIF in my form1. It's a very basic logon script, nothing special. It just shows a form with a background pic and do the drive & printer mappings.

As soon it shows form1 the GIF won't animate - it looks just static. the script will continue to process the other lines like drive mapping etc and then closes.

Can someone give me may an code example how to show the gif animation while it continues to process the other script line?

thanks in advance!

BTW; i found somehting like: $Nul = Execute($Form1.DoEvents(1)) but i dont really know how tu use that..

Sorry for my non existing Kix Knowledge .... ;-(

thanks!

Hi,

I would be surprised if kf can animate gifs ... but hey, surpise me, I'm not Shawn ;\)

btw: .DoEvents(1) would be the correct way to not wait for events to happen but continue processing if nothing waits in the queue.
But the safer use of it would be
sample code:
 Code:
break on
$System = createobject('Kixtart.System')
$form = $System.Form()
; do your declaration and definition stuff here

$form.Show
while $form.visible
  $ = execute($System.DoEvents(1))  ;<- note $System insteaad of $form
loop
;continue with stuff even if form is closed

Edit Reason: forgot the execute :(

You could also use one of the many online apps to split the animated gif into it's individual frames. Then use a timer to simply cycle through the images, which would give the illusion of an animated gif.

Hi Shane,

ja, well, I'd do this not if I'd have to do a logon script (for performance's sake)
But yeah, that would be the only way to make that happen.

Hmm.. how long does it take to run the script that you have time to display a form and animate a GIF?? Not to mention the need for KixForms on every workstation..

My logon script typically completes in 3.4 seconds mapping 9 drives and 2 printers, and that's with performance logging enabled. I might spend more effort on performance tuning instead of techniques to entertain the user.

Not tried but perhaps one could create a IE object and place it on IE to display ?
