Wow ! Somebody actually used my step by step guide. Thats really great.

Berni I have no experience of running kixtart scripts from a Linux Server so cannot possibly advise you. I have just reviewed your new thread that you have created and it appears that your problems were related to the computers that you were doing your tests on?

One of your mistakes is trying to get the task scheduler to run the script from the netlogon folder. The system account that the task scheduler uses does not have network access and thus the script will never run if hosted on the server. This is precisely why I had to use the startup script to copy the script to each local computer so that the task scheduler can run the script locally.

Thank you very much for using my step by step guide. I hope in the end that you managed to get it working. I have implemented this in my own scripts for my clients and I have no issues with it other than the desire to improve the coding at some point in time. but I can assure you it works beautifully for my networks.

I will second NTDOC,s and Glenn Barnas viewpoints. I use Linux for my Internet box which provides content filtering, caching and firewall services. But I use Windows Servers for my network servers as I believe that the initial outlay of the licenses is vastly lower than the costs of trying to get Linux to work with everything. "Samba integration issues" sums it all up in three words ! Linux is not free because sometimes the cost of man hours one has to put into getting it all working vastly exceeds the cost of Server licenses.

My best advice to you would be to put in windows Servers for your Windows Clients. Linux is fantastic for something like my Internet Content filtering box or a web server etc. But integrating two different environments into a network seems to be more hassle than its worth. That's just my opinion.

Again thank you for making use of my guide. Its really great to see that somebody actually used it and hopefully you will get it working for your particular network. I am sorry that I took so long to respond to your query, but I wasn't aware that anyone had posted to this topic as I don't get emails informing me that there is a new response. I just noticed that the thread was active quite by accident. thanks again

I wonder if my instructions are not as clear as I thought and perhaps thats also why you couldn't get it working?
