From a script portability, and readability standpoint I understand where you're comming from on that Shane.
However from my environmental standpoint, where I am looking to use this script specifically is a series of 2008 R2 servers that are mirror copies of each other. So I'm assured that the data will be interpreted correctly . .at least for now.
All the same, even with the path fully spelled out, I'm not seeing the behavior I expect to see out of the revised kix scripts. All file and registry modifications appear to take properly, but outlook launches differently. Replace the kix file / registry sections with calls to DOS scripts to do the same thing, and it works fine.
Since I have a working model (even though it's slightly less desirable) I'm going to close out this thread for now. I will likely look back on working on this issue again when hair pulling free time becomes available.
tyvm again Shane, and Allen for your suggestions and commentary. Very very helpful.
for the record I'm positive the problem here is something on my end and not kix ;).
