Hello,
I am somewhat new to Kixtart world and I am stuck on this one. We are deploying Microsoft Visio Viewer via Kixtart. I am able to use Windows "Run" and type the following command to install Visio Viewer silently:

\\servername\share\Microsoft\VisioViewer\visioviewer.exe /quiet /passive

However, when I run the following line with kixtart, the software will not deploy:

shell "\\servername\share\Microsoft\VisioViewer\visioviewer.exe /quiet /passive"

I tried playing with the quotation mark, but I just can't seem to get this one. Why would something that "Run" on the Run window not run in Kixtart?

Try adding the following line right after the shell command, and see what it says. Like so...
 Code:
shell "\\servername\share\Microsoft\VisioViewer\visioviewer.exe /quiet /passive"
$nul = MessageBox("Error: "+@Error+@CRLF+"Desc: "+@SError,"Shell Status",0)

That is a useful line. Thank you for that. I feel like someone just turned the light on.
The error I can see now is "Error 740 Desc: The requested operation requires elevation". This installation is for Windows 7, and I have the GPO set to the following:

- User Account Control: behavior of the elevation prompt for administrator in Admin Aproval Mode: Elevate without prompting
- User Account Control: Detect application installation and prompt for elevation: Disabled
- User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode: Enabled.

This GPO works great for MSI files, but I guess not for EXE. All users are local admin of their own computers. Do you think there is a workaround here? Is there a switch to "run as administrator" in Windows 7?

if you are installing stuff in the script, you should set the second policy to enabled, in my opinion.

you can use runas to elevate a single installation.
you could also disable UAC on the grounds that your users all are admins and you allow silent elevation.

I think it was that VisioViewer.exe in particular. I used Kixtart to call the bat file with the same line. With the above GPO and the bat file, it worked. Thank you everyone.

What happens if you run it from your kix script like so?
 Code:
shell '%comspec% /c "\\servername\share\Microsoft\VisioViewer\visioviewer.exe /quiet /passive"'
