Hi Guys

Has anyone been able to change a local account password ?
I need to be able to change the local administrator account for aduit reasons. I thought the best approach would be via the logon script. Has any one been able to do this ?

Login script is a bad idea. Hopefully your local users don't have administrator rights? Anyway, you can do that through group policy preferences. See GPP for local adminsitrator password change

Didn't think you could do this with group policy , that why I went with logon script. My bad....

Not a bad since none of us know everything. My first thought was a system startup script. I did a quick search on the Internet and found many hits. One was a script in the technet "Hey scripting guy" series. I then saw the above. That seemed faster and more reliable. \:\)

(Although I do know a few people that think they know everything.) \:\)

I use an admin script that runs every 2 hours looking for new computers. It will change the local admin password every month and record the transaction to a file.

Les, just curious, but is the password you send encrypted, or clear text. I couldn't tell from the scripting guy web page whether the password was clear text or encrypted.

The script itself is never pulled across the wire. It is run locally and uses a utility called RenameAdmin.exe that Howard Bullock wrote.
