Hello, I hope this is a quick, easy question to answer. Are scripted commands cached or saved in any way? Searching the forums didn't lead me anywhere. I am building a script that requires a plain-text password and want to know if this a potential security risk.

If the commands are saved, can they be purged?

Thank you

more I would be worried of your scriptfile containing the password in the first place.
have you checked tokenisation in the kixtart documentation file?

Thank you Lonkero, I hadn't seen that before now and I may use it.

However, it seems I didn't give enough detail. The password will not be saved within the script. I will be typing it each time I run the script and saving my input as a variable, using the variable where the password would need to go.

So the concern is, as the script runs a loop with the password inputted via variable, do those commands within the loop get saved anywhere? As near as I can tell that's the only time the plain text password would be revealed.

as any other computer program, kixtart will store it's variables in memory.
and if the underlying OS so decides, it can start caching stuff that has been stored in RAM into a pagefile in HD.

I understand and accept that the variable will be saved temporarily in memory. I just wanted to check if KiXtart has its own log of the commands that are run, and it appears not.

Thank you for your responses.

I think that only thing that kix will cache client side, is user security group memberships.
