yellowdog yellowdog Starting to like KiXtart Registered: 2005-06-14 Posts: 102	Hello everybody, I deployed a W7 workstation on my domain, but the kixtart scripts are not running anymore when the session is opened. The UAC is set to low, the KB976494 is not needed for the OS (that's what the program says if I intend to install it on a W7 professional SP1). The way the logon script is set in the user account, in the profile tab I set the name of a batch file that's calling a kixtart script. Where do I have to search in order to solve this quickly ?

Make sure you turn off DelayedDesktopSwitchTimeout (google it) and set the value to zero or the "welcome" screen will display for 30 seconds and block the actions of your script, including any errors. I never use a bat file anymore - just specify "kix32.exe kixtart.kix" in the user's profile. You need to specify the script name for versions 4.60 and 4.61 - earlier and later versions automatically run "kixtart.kix". Don't specify any path values either - the netlogon folder is the first folder in the PATH during login. I do set some GPOs on every domain that I support, such as "wait for the network", run login scripts visible, and run login scripts synchronously. I don't change UAC, users are generally not local admins, and no other special actions are taken. My clients use XP SP3 (32 & 64bit) and Win7 (32 & 64bit) without any issues running Kix-based login scripts. All scripts run from the Netlogon share - Kix is never installed locally except on admin workstations where additional Kix scripts are used. The networks that we support range from a dozen systems to several thousand at multiple sites, depending upon the client. If you can't find the problem after getting rid of the blasted welcome screen, post your code (Bat and Kix) and we'll take a look. yellowdog yellowdog Starting to like KiXtart Registered: 2005-06-14 Posts: 102	Thank you for the answer, Setting the DelayedDesktopSwitchTimeout to 0 enables me to execute simple scripts, but complex scripts do not run at all. If I run the script manually, it works in the user session. What does mean "block the actions of your scripts" ? Edited by yellowdog (2012-01-19 01:21 PM)

Glenn Barnas Glenn Barnas KiX Supporter Registered: 2003-01-28 Posts: 4401 Loc: New Jersey	Sorry - hadn't had enough coffee yet to be lucid.. $;\)$ I meant "hide" the actions of your script.. when the welcome screen is displayed, the login script runs behind it.. if it fails in less than 30 seconds of run time and closes, you'll never see the error. Disabling the welcome screen allows you to catch the script running and any errors it might throw. I'll review your code and let you know if I see anything amiss. If set to kix32.exe kixtartnamefile.kix everything is fine. We worked with the call to a batch file since Windows NT4 and never encountered any problem like this, then for W7 I'll have to set it differently. Thank's once more for your help.
