Hi all, I am a bit of a noob with kix so please bare with me.
The kix scripts were introduced at our company before I started but somehow I have been asked to look into the errors we are getting.

On random machines and on random days, machines are getting the error message - "Kixscripts Editor EXE Packager Setup. Error decompressing data! Corrupted installer?"

I have done a quick search on here and cannot find anyone that has experienced this. We are currently using version 4.61 and the script which uses kix32.exe would take too long to troubleshoot (a mess I know!).

I assume there is no way to hide error messages? As this happens with no consistancy, its hard to determine what is causing this. 1 day it may error on a machine, but the next day it will be fine.

I know the chances of fixing this without extensive troubleshooting is unlikely, but worth a shot to see if anyone has seen this message before and may be able to give me a direction to start looking.

Many thanks in advance.

forgot to mention..

the chap that wrote the script thought it was the unpacking to the temp area which was failing or a problem with the windows installer. Both of these have been looked into (re-register installer, clearing down temp area), but errors still occur.

thanks

It looks like your scripts are packaged into an executable. They are unpacked to the temp folder and then executed as regular scripts. Is this absolutely needed? If you have the source script(s) and there is no sensitive data in it (does not belong in a logon script) you can run them as scripts and be done with it.

the script is packaged as an executable yes. will need to recheck the contents for sensitive data. so your saying dont use the exe, just save the script as a .kix and run it that way? but anyone could then view the code?

Yes, anyone with enough knowledge to know where the script is located, could possibly view the contents of the script.

Typically people package scripts into an .exe in an effort to hide information, for example if admin login info is being passed at some point.

But like Mart said, if there is nothing in the script worth attempting to hide, you could eliminate the packaging process by just leaving it in the .kix format.

and like chap had guessed, it is the unpacking to the temp area that is failing.
