Getting the hang of it

hi All,

I use KixWin to display our PC Acceptable Use Policy when people log in and it works just fine. But I want to update things a bit, and the AUP just got a whole lot longer. So I went looking for the latest version of KixWin and I just can't fine it.

I am assuming that KixWin is not more, so what do you recommend I use? I need to display a short HTML document that links to a 11 page PDF. Ideally the login process will wait until the script finishes as I need the users to click message boxes to agree to the documents.

I'm all windows, from XP to Win7 in a AD domain. I use GPOs to call the required scripts, i just need a robust method for displaying the HTML and PDF

Thanks in advance for the ideas...

You could have a look at kixforms classic or the .net version. It requires an extra DLL to be registered but this can be done easily with a GPO that deploys the package.

Have a look at the kixforms website.

I use kixforms quite a bit for other stuff, but I can't see how to use it to display a web page and PDF.

Unfortunately the documents need to keep the complicated formatting as they are part of our Standing Instructions.

I have tried a rich text box and dump an RTF into it (and html) but it just isn't good enough.

If there isn't a viable solution I may need to go to management and ask for leniency :-$

Thought about displaying an InternetExplorer object with the contents? You can always set it to the desired size, and turn all the toolbars off.

Not to destroy the use of Kixtart for everything, but why not display this with group policy? When a user hits ctl-alt-del it pops up a window before giving the user a chance to logon.

Computer Config >> Windows Settings >> Security Settings >> Local Policies >> Security Options >> Interactive Logon: Message text for users attempting to log on

The standard windows Acceptable Use simply shows "OK" - once you click OK, you're in. You have no opportunity to disagree, other than walking away. A home-grown approach can provide an "Agree/Disagree" option. Agree and you're in, disagree and you're outta here! (plus logging options, etc).

Not that there's anything to prevent a user from clicking "Agree" and ignoring the policy...
