I need to force registering of some dll's for office becuase of a change. I need admin rights for them to register but don't want to logon to 200 machines one-by-one. How can I make it so the logon script does it for each "user" without giving them admin rights?

Thanks,
-J

I think you should be able to use regini.exe to accomplish this (found in the NT resource kit). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

1. Create a regini script (read the documentation.. maybe someone else knows how to code one). This script should modify the correct registry keys to register the files. (I don't know what those are.)

2. Make a script that passes a list of computer names one by one to the regini command line.

This would work like:

shell "path\regini.exe -m \\" + $computername + " registrytextfilename"

You could store the list of computer names in a file, then read them one by one with open/readline/close to assign the $computername value, and loop until complete.

I'm sure someone else has probably done something like this before, so hopefully they will speak up? [Smile]

I didn't say this, but the method I proposed would NOT involve using the logon script, but would be a script you would run from an NT server by the administrator account... just thought I should clarify that. I don't see a good way of doing it through the logon without admin access.

If needed, in the FAQ Section, there is article that discusses SU.

There's also a policy template (.adm file) in the Office Resource Kit that will allow you to run pretty much anything you like as admin. If you wanted to see how it's done you can just edit the template file and use the same registry tricks. This worked for our support team recently when they wanted to deploy an installation package at login for all domain users.
