Hi All,

I have a logon script that has been working fine for 5 years on a Windows 2003 AD Domain. Recently it stopped working. I run the script from the NETLOGON share and have kix32.exe in the users profile.

When a user logs on KIX32 flashes on the screen but the script doesn't run, I can run it fine by doing it manually - \\DC02\NETLOGON\kix32.

I put a DEBUG ON statement in the top of the script to see if it was even being called and it's not.

When the problems started I upgraded to the latest stable version of kix32.exe and that didn't help either.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Is kix32.exe the only thing in the user profile?

I'm thinking it was around 4.60 that either a bug/feature was introduced that requires you to include the name of your script.

kix32.exe script.kix

Yes, kix32 is the only thing in the profile. I'm using the default file
name of kixtart.kix

I put that in the profile, but it didn't work

kix32.exe kixtart.kix

Which version would be the best to go back to?

I tried it again and it worked. I might not have waited long enough for the update to the profile to take place.

Thanks

Then it has to be something else. Stick with 4.61, its pretty solid.

Start with basics... make a simple batch file (in Netlogon) that has a pause in it. Put the name of the bat file in the user profile, and then login to make sure the user sees that. Then add kix32 /? on the first line of the bat and make sure you see the help text of kix. Then add your script name to it.

Check eventlogs too.

Okay great. Just make sure you have 4.61... 4.60 was a little buggy.

It sounds like an AD problem. How many DCs? Have you tested \\domain.tld\netlogon\ instead of the DC name?

Maybe force the wait for network GPO. Clients may be logging on with cached creds and not waiting for the network.

Check your network providers and order for possible need to tweek.
