 Code:
For Each $objItem In GetObject("winmgmts:\\.\root\CIMV2").ExecQuery("Select Vendor, Version, Name, LocalPackage from Win32_Product",,48)
	If InSTR($objItem.Vendor, "symantec")
		Shell "%comspec% /c msiexec /uninstall " + $objItem.LocalPackage + " /qn REMOVE=ALL RebootYesNo=No Reboot=ReallySuppress"
	EndIf
Next

I've been playing with this little snippet of code to uninstall Symantec across my network, but I can't get it to run properly. I pulled this snippet from:
http://www.kixtart.org/forums/ubbthreads...c=0&Search=true

If I add a "? $objItem.Vendor" before the EndIf, my output displays nothing leading me to believe that it's not even running the WMI query.

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong, or a better way to do this?

Thanks,

Did you see my link in the thread you referenced... there are two registry entries you have to modify before you can uninstall SAV. Not sure about the WMI code... never tried it.

Dropping "LocalPackage" from the field list seems to fix it.

Try this to validate:
 Code:
Break ON
$=SetOption("Explicit","ON")

Dim $oWMI,$oResults,$objItem

$oWMI=GetObject("winmgmts:\\.\root\CIMV2")
If @ERROR "Cannot attache to CIMV2, reason: ["+@ERROR+"] "+@SERROR+@CRLF Exit 1 EndIf
$oResults=$oWMI.ExecQuery("Select Vendor, Version, Name from Win32_Product",,48)
If @ERROR "Cannot query packages, reason: ["+@ERROR+"] "+@SERROR+@CRLF Exit 1 EndIf
For Each $objItem In $oResults
	"Found package " $objItem.Name+"|"+$objItem.Vendor+"|"+$objItem.Version+@CRLF
	If InSTR($objItem.Vendor, "symantec")
		" Uninstalling package here..."+@CRLF
	EndIf
Next

I have both of the registry keys in my script.

When I run the validation script, I get a pile of "Found Package" lines.
This is what I'm after right?

Oh, and I can see the "Uninstalling package here" right after the Symantec entry.

This is part of the: Tech Toolkit 2.0

If I run this exe file with a /? it does not us the switches available.

Unfortunately, Symantec did not include SAV in this utility, nor did they release an official uninstaller for SAV10.

Nor does it work well. I'm not 100% certain what hung it but I think it was having trouble with the Windows Installer, but it would not finish running on a box just the other day. There is another tool on the Web with a similar name that some guy wrote that appears to work quite well at removing Symantec's stuff. If I can find it again I'll post the link.

If i may ask...

Since you are removing Symantec, what are you replacing it with?

LOL - I wish I were removing it but for work here I'm not \:\(

I've looked at purchasing ESET/NOD32 but the pricing actually is no bargain compared to McAfee, Symantec, Kaspersky as they all are expensive as heck when you need to put it on hundreds of desktops. I emailed their sales for other pricing options besides the Web and never heard back from them, they don't have a good Enterprise sales department in place at least for US Sales.

For the moment we're not even updating to the newer Endpoint 11x and just staying on the 10x even though Symantec wants us to update.

I moved all my clients to Sunbelt Vipre Enterprise. Very reasonably priced, especially with a competitive upgrade. Easy to install, manage, and has uninstallers for most of the other AV products. It also seems to run with a whole lot less resources... everyone was like, "what did you do to my computer, it's running so much faster". The times I've called into support, it's always been someone who speaks english, and for the most part has been very responsive.

We've recently moved to Trend Micro OfficeScan, it also unstall's McAfee's ePo and VirusScan! now that's a b*tch and a half to do manually.
Plus their pricing is bettern then McAfee's and Symantec's.

And I have the same experience with them as Allen has with Sunbelt.
Just thought I'd mention it.

Not to resurrect a dead thread, but we recently purchased ESET/NOD32 and couldn't be happier with replacing SEP 11 with it. Deployment is the smoothest I've seen, administration is so easy and the price was a lot cheaper. Now I'm just trying to find the best way to silently remove SEP 11 from the network. Hopefully, this will work out!

Removing the workstation or server software is easy. Removing all the certificates with a script though might be another story.

To remove the certificates...

Running a batch file from logon scripts...

certutil -delstore root "3b 67 98 9f 8a 1b e0 75 68 f2 ec ca 05 df a7 43"
certutil -delstore root "51 3e 18 93 86 9e b8 cf 12 24 84 77 1b 3c db 82"

Doc,

Been following quite a few threads over at http://technibble.com ..

Couple of things that should take care of this...

Appremover..
http://www.appremover.com/

http://www.appremover.com/appremover/AppRemover.exe

Supported Apps that it removes includes..
http://www.appremover.com/supported-applications
Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2009 XP SP2
Symantec EndPoint Protection 11 XP SP2
Symantec Antivirus 10.1 XP SP2
Symantec EndPoint Protection 11 XP SP3
Symantec Antivirus 10.1.4.4000 XP SP3
Symantec Antivirus 10.0.0.359 XP SP3
Symantec Norton Antivirus 2007 XP SP3
Symantec Norton Internet Security 2007 XP SP3
Symantec Norton System Works 2006 Premier XP SP3
Symantec Norton Internet Security 2009 XP SP3
Symantec Antivirus 9 XP SP3

Symantec Endpoint Protection..
http://www.appdeploy.com/packages/detail.asp?id=1688

From what I can see here, it appears to be an MSI installer..

You should be able to use the command-line switches for MSIEXEC..
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc759262(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_Uninstall

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/227091

Norton Remover..
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

Thanks for the links and info.

The Norton_Removal_Tool.exe tool just plain sucks and even fails to load on some systems. Not sure what they wrote the tool in but it too is a PITA like their AV installer.

I can code a removal tool I'm sure. Was just not sure how to handle those cert removals. Still need to try the posted method, but as you know I'm sure - many other fires come up to take the place of the last one.
