Chris,
I totally agree with your opinion on sevices, run as few as possible!
The KxRpc service is one of the excepts for me.
I havent heard of any situations where the KxRpc service was in any way the culprit of: forcing the server to cloce, taking over the CPU(Time) or in any other way disturb the network/server.
AND I don't have to reread the manual for every new relase of KiXtart to see if my script-problems has something to do with changes in the KxRpc-service or the Win9x-DLL's. As long as i upgrade the KxRpc-service and Win9x-DLL's every time i upgrade to a new public release, i have never expirienced any problems.
Summing this up: I would advice you to install the service and use the Win9x-DLL's as long as you have Win9x clients on your network, at least your script-errors will not come from unsupported functions and macros on Win9x-clients.
