I searched the boards and Googled the following without success...

We were having a problem with our printers showing up for some folks and not for others...soooooo, Kixtart to the rescue!!

I got everyone set up using a login script, and it ran wonderfully (login script given to me by another tech colleague who sets these scripts up daily for his clients.)

The script ran fine, everyone had printers until this morning. One of our Vista machines didn't install the printers. Normally, in the script window when it comes to the printer installation part a return value of 0 appears as each printer is added. Today, this value appeared as a 6 on just this one machine. Our place is a mix of mostly XP machines with a few Vista machines thrown in. The very computer I'm typing this post on is a Vista machine, but the script ran fine on my machine today.

Any ideas?

Hmm. Error 6. Well, it's not a very descriptive message (see attached screenshot).

Check the computer's event logs (System and Administration) for the time that the failure occurred. You normally get something a little more useful there.

Ok...I checked and that didn't give me anything helpful.

Normally, in the DOS script window that opens, when my script gets to the printers the screen displays

Mapping Network Printers0000

(We have 4 printers on the network we are mapping out, and a 0 appears as each one is mapped.)

On this machine today, I actually see

Mapping Network Printers6666

I had the user restart the computer with the same results...

Have you recently added/changed AV? or added/changed GPOs? The reason I ask is, if you google "handle invalid network drive", there are fixes that involve GPOs and or AV. Might or might not help.

Are these machines Vista? SP1 fixed a number printing issues.

They are Vista...I'm not sure if SP1 is put on the machine in question yet or not...the strange thing is, the script worked fine as expected yesterday but not today.

Nothing has changed right? No changes in group membership, MS updates, new printers, etc......?
Does the script run correct if you run it manually after logon?
It is very difficult to troubleshoot this whit the info that we have so far. There must be some kind of change (everything matters, also the smallest things) because a working script does not stop working just like that.

Can you post your script?
