I would like to suggest that in the next version of KiX:

1. A new forum for Editor be created.

2. Ruud and the big dogs like (Glenn, NTDocs, etc...) pick an KiX Editor like KiXtart Script Editor (which is what I use) and adopt it as the standard free KiX Editor. The editor chosen is not so important as a unified option to the new KiX user. Right now, a new user would just use Notepad. Of course, users can use what they want for an editor but until a user is comfortable to do that...

3. This would give the main users on here a chance to improve this editor so it would be a nice tool to help beginners.

Just don't think that is really practical. If we as a community did create an editor that was awesome and most everyone liked that might be okay, but as it is there are just too many different opinions on editors and most all of the free ones seem to lack support for one thing or another that many of us use editors for.

I use Ultra Edit and Admin Script Editor (neither are free but are great tools). I also install Notepad++ on many systems just in case I want or need to use something a little better than notepad when I'm on someone else's machine. But if I really have to I'll use Notepad as it does cover the basics.

I use GVIM (a VI clone) for all my editing except VBA and am not at all interested in any other editor.

I'd also strongly oppose using the KiXtart board to endorse or promote any one single product. Personal endorsements and recommendations are fine, and I don't have a problem with collecting the various recommendations together into a FAQ as we have done.

Even if a particular editor becomes popular with KiXtart users the support, discussion and feature requests still are more appropriately addressed to the editor's own dedicated board / forums.

What? Where did this topic come from?

We have had this discussion before in the KiXtart FAQ & How to's Forum..

Specifically.. Can't decide what editor to use... Maybe this'll help.

In other words, you might like one editor and I like something else. Really, it is a preference than anything else. Kinda like I may like Hushpuppies and you like Wolverine Boots..

HTH,

Kent
