I've been to various Internet sites to try and solve this problem. I have a script that once packaged works on my unit but will not work on other units. The app will run at first then stop with no prompt. The eventlog shows the following:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: KIXTART
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1
Date: 6/26/2009
Time: 10:50:04 PM
User: N/A
Computer: ORL4OFOB0092028

Description:

The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( KIXTART ) cannot be found.
The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event:

ERROR : expected ')'!
Script: C:\Documents and Settings\frank.bonefont\Local Settings\Temp\970843\Scripts\SRP.kix
Line : 61
Error : Incorrect function. (0x1/1).[/size]
The line it is referring to is simply an entry that was created by KiXforms. Not sure how this relates to the error but the line of code is as follows:

;~~< Form1 > ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
$Form1 = $System.Form()
$Form1.Size = $System.Size(262, 247)
$Form1.Text = "Save/Restore Profile"
$Form1.MaximizeBox = 0
$Form1.StartPosition = 1

Line 61 happens to be associated with "$Form1.Text = 'Save/Restore Profile'"

I apologize if I'm in the wrong location to post my need for assistance. Appreciate any help...

Have you installed KixForms on the other machines?

No I have not. I was hoping that I can, by packaging the app with KiXforms.dll, run the program on other machines without having to install KiXforms onto each and every machine I run the program on. If I can't run the packaged executable without having KiXforms installed onto other machines it would be a sad turn of events.

I'm using ASE which allows or assist with packaging an application into an .EXE file. I'm informed that I can add KiXforms.dll in order to avoid the need to install KiXforms onto other machines. I very much hope this is the case. Appreciate your reply.

You need to install kixforms (classic or .NET depending on what type you used) on each and every workstation you want to run the script on.

However you can deploy it with a GPO or a start-up script so you don’t need to run around and visit each machine yourself.

Wow, that is sad in deed. After a few email coorespondences with techs from ASE, no where in our conversation was I informed that I needed KiXforms installed on each unit I plan to run the packaged application.

This is not good news as I don't have the luxury of installing KiXforms on every unit. This is what I was hoping the packaged app would do for me. I'll have to resort to another application software package like Visual Basic. Sad indeed...

As Mart mentioned, KiXforms can be installed via GPO. Since you spent enough time in writing your app you should be able to invest a bit more for the KiXforms GPO deployment.

Why not put the KixForms.dll in your package and have the script check for it's presence on the host machine and install it itself? (provided the user who runs the packaged script is a local admin, or use a Run(n)as utility to run the packaged script).

Though when you use a Run(n)as utility keep in mind that any Current User specific settings are lost (such as HKCU and Background or Desktop operations).
