Check the manual for the READLINE() example. After reading a line $line, you do a $a=SPLIT($line,',') which will rearrange your CSV line into an array. Then you get the third field as $array[2]

There are two types of vessels, submarines and targets.
And in case you didn't have enough good choices, you could also use the Word() and/or GetLine() UDF's. Personally, in your case I lean toward sealeopard's solution as the most direct, but I don't know what else your script is doing. You might be able to get more mileage out of these UDF's.
