Hello,

we recently upgraded to Vista. Now I need to overwrite a non-microsoft INI-File in the %systemroot% directory.
I tried:
 Code:
 copy \\server\share\file %systemroot%

but no joy.
The code works in Windows 2000 and XP.
My guess is this the UAC does not permit overwriting a file in this folder.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or help me solve the problem - I think this must be possible with KiXtart.

As I am pressed for time, I appreciate any glue.
Regards
Bernhard

You could disable UAC on one machine and see if it is UAC that is giving you problems.

How can I disable the User Account Control (UAC) feature on my Windows Vista computer?

Yes the script requires Elevated Permissions to modify anything in a system folder on Vista.

It can be done via GPO.

Search Microsoft for Elevated Permissions on Vista

What you might be able to do is copy it to a users local folder and from there copy to the system folder (but probably not unless the user has rights to do so as well)

Even going through the GUI you can not directly copy files from a Server location into the local system folders - you first have to copy to another location such as a user folder, then to the system folder.

Thanks to both of you. I did not think of the obvious (to disable UAC and test). Unfortunatly disabling UAC did not get the desired result.
I will try to follow NTDOCs lead.

Thanks both of you.
