Is there a way to determine screen resolution for all OS remotely? I have found many posts on this topic and it seems there are many ways to do it but some work for some os and then others work for others... is anyone aware of a way to read screen res remotely?
Thanks for the help

the screen res is located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware Profiles\Current\System\CurrentControlSet\SERVICES\ATIRAGE3\DEVICE0
Note that ATIRAGE3 is the video card installed, you woyld have to ENUMKEY if you wanted to script it.
I'm not certain if wintendo keeps their stuff here...

Listed profiles are 0000 0001 0002 CURRENT
So why would current not give me CURRENT reading?

Dear,
It would be nice we can use one generic piece of code to retrieve f.e. settings of your monitor. Only the problem is Microsoft has changed the registry structure many time. The differences are exist during windows 95/NT period.
Our script monitor.kix which you can find on our site returns resolution for different windows versions. greetings.

Heres a sampling of the info you can get from the WIN32_VideoController class. I switched you from Jens suggestion (VideoConfiguration) to VideoController as the former is no longer supported in WinXP and will result in an error. There are 59 properties available to read from, here are a few...
code:
$strComputer = "." $objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\"+$strComputer+"\root\cimv2")
$objVideo = $objWMIService.ExecQuery("select * from Win32_VideoController")
For each $Video in $objVideo ? " Name: " $Video.Name ? " Resolution: " $Video.CurrentHorizontalResolution " x " $Video.CurrentVerticalResolution ? " Current Colors: " $Video.CurrentNumberOfColors ? "Current Refresh: " $Video.CurrentRefreshRate Next

ash,
Have you had a look at the UDF library and specifically, WMIQuery() - Used to execute a query against WMI?
If you look at the line: quote:
$SystemSet = GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!//$computer")
You should be able to change $computer that to be any computer you have on the domain.
HTH,
Kent

ash,
If you want to enable remote detection of (current) screenresolution on Win9x, you have to install either remote registry support or WMI (or both) on your Win9x ws'es. On NT you might want to install WMI
Have you tried GetScreenRes()
You can use this to log the settings at logon time if you make it part of your logon (inventory) and let the info be written to a file on a common share.
