Usage:
Zap filename.ext

As explained on KiXtart Helpdesk
It would be handy to have this incorporated into KiX.

KiX already supports this with version 4.53 using the /p switch.

Basically no program can delete in-use files until a reboot or by attempting to kill the process, which is often not a good idea.

 Quote:
Action: Deletes one or more files.

Syntax: DEL "file name" [/c] [/f] [/h] [/p] [/s]
/c Continue deleting files, even if error(s) occur.

/f Delete read-only files.

/h Deletes hidden and system files also.

/p Postpone action until next system reboot.

/s Delete specified files from all subdirectories.

Remarks: DEL does not prompt the user to confirm the deletion.
Wildcards are supported.

Zap.exe does EXACTLY that :P zap deletes files currently in use, no matter which they are and no reboot required ever!

This is kinda tricky imho. Deleting files that are in use can cause weird system behavior. The files are in use for a reason. The current functionality to postpone the removal of the file until the next reboot is much safer imho.

This is juts my view and personal opinion on this suggestion.

Well would have to disagree with that as I've used the tool and a couple other like it in the past and there are files that can not be killed while in memory by this or any of the other utils I tried.

Though blindly doing this in a script could be very problematic. Even being used as a script to remove spyware can actually cause the entire box to freeze and then on reboot the same file you were trying to remove will be back again.

Not that it could not have a purpose so not saying not to have it but overall the /P switch (IMHO) would often be a better choice.

Of course there are exceptions, but one can even use zap.exe to zap zap.exe \:\) Anyway it's handy functionality and shouln't be subject to public use politics.
