The same as Jooel posted goes for me. Once I had an other account that I rarely used. Lost pw and stuff so I registered a new one. The old account had just a few posts on it.

But gawhd, did I hate being left alone with noone at work to assist me.. that's what you get for working close with some ppl - but not doing the same things... the start of my kix-career at least \:\) (not that many improvements since then tho ;\) )

I didn't realize so many of you had accounts prior to the one you are using.... ahhh so when you have questions now, you just revert back to those old accounts and no one is the wiser ;\)

Actually the Mid() UDF was my first post. Looking back at that is rather embarrassing, considering I hadn't used kix enough to know there was a substr function. Lord. (and nevermind the fact I defended it as if it did something so extravagant that substr couldn't do). I can't remember the last time I used it.

And for the real old timers there were a few KiXtart boards before this one.
This one though had the honor of becoming/remaining the defacto standard, official KiXtart site.

I was not using KiXtart back then myself as I was doing desktop support and we only used it in login script which was handled by another team, but I would help do script research with them - The noobies have it so easy now days. What do you want to do? OH! We have a script / UDF for that. Back then there was very little shared information available.

The noobs have it so easy ... yeah right :D. Since you had to do so much more research back then - you learned so darn much - look at me! I was scripting with kix actively thanks to all you guys over a year back and managed to rewrite and refine a couple of huge old projects gone a-wall - still remember ending up at one customer until five in the morning - but thanks to you doc, and Allen (and some more of you ;\) ) it ended there at five - and I had things running smoothly! without this place, I'd be toast back then.

Well, the problem I referenced in that original post led to my first UDF (that I can recall) - fSetM()! The problem was fixed in later releases of Kix, so I returned to using SetM(), but I still use that customization script on every server and admin workstation to this day. It lays the framework for lots of other complex admin scripts.

And - what do you mean we were all noobs "once" ? ? If we're lucky, we get to be noobs on a regular basis - learning new stuff all the time. 2 years ago I bought a Fibre Channel SAN to play with, last year was VM-ESX, and I just got myself a Cisco Access Concentrator this week and am learning how to use Asterisk to replace my hardware PBX here in the house.

I can remember before KORG there was a site with a black background and green text with lots of examples. I've visited this site a lot. Must be somewhere in the late 90's
