Just wanted to point-out a couple of changes I have seen with the new Beta. Don't recall them being mentioned, some may be "bugs" not sure.

1) When kix encounters an error and terminates, a message is displayed on the console (like in previous versions) but kix no longer BEEPS the console. Not sure if this is by design or not.

2) On the command line, when typing a path to a bad file name, no message is displayed on the console ...

C:\>kix453.exe xxxyyy.kix
ERROR : failed to find/open script [xxxyyy.kix]!

C:\>kix460.exe xxxyyy.kix
C:\>

3) Not sure if anyone has noticed - all syntax errors are now (also) written to the Application Event Log ... nice change guess this has something to do with the new COM implementation ?

I can see it already... peeps will complain about the noise in the evt log. Perhaps a SetOption('loglevel',[1|2|3|4]) kinda thing to control KiX verbosity would be nice.

If they are syntax errors (abends) then I guess it can't get too noisy as the script will stop after the first one \:\)

A command line option to disable event log updates would probably be sufficient, otherwise you won't be able to disable the logging of your mis-spelled SteOtpion("LogLevel",...)

Don't know about you Les, but the first two points I'm kind of "OK" with ...

1) The beep can get annoying sometimes.

2) Complaining about bad filenames defeats the purpose when one is trying to build a custom commandline using GetCommandLine(). Kix always treated things like custom switches as bad filenames. Having said that, haven't seen many folks actually try to build a custom line.

But hey - if they're bugs might be better to fix them.

It could if it were a busy terminal server. I just recall some peeps complaining of KiX evt log entries on terminal servers in the past.

This may be a little off topic here and belong in the suggestions forum but here it is for now. The reason I suggested the different loglevels was that non-critical errors (those that do not abend) could also be controlled. I thought you could infer that.

I think the event log issue is long overdue! I have several network services and client/server applications written in Kix, and the ability to see error messages during operation is very helpful, especially when it encounters a condition not anticipated or tested in development.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll check into KiX not throwing an error for a bad file/path name.

The next build of KiX will throw an error for a bad file/path name.
