I posted a log management tool here a while back. The current version is very much updated. We use it to rotate/clear all kinds of system logs.
I have it documented on my web site, but it isn't available for download because I'm updating the documents, and working on a gui management tool. If you review it and feel it suits your needs, I can arrange for you to download the current release.
The current version is configured with a setup script to automatically set up a nightly job to dump the event logs in .EVT format, and export them to .TXT for analysis. This is all easily configured, and an excellent example of using the tool. The same tool can manage application logs, archive to zip files, and self-maintains its own activity logs.
