NTDOC NTDOC Administrator Registered: 2000-07-28 Posts: 11625 Loc: CA	Here is a brief list of some of the upcoming new or enhanced features of UBBT for version 7.2 Special thanks to Mark S. for compiling this list Spoiler Tags. These can be accessed via the Full Reply screen. "S" with the Diagonal line. What are spoiler tags for? There are many reasons. ) A Review and you don't want to spoil the ending. ) A joke with a funny ending. ) Or the answer to a question. Mark a Forum as Read The New Post Icon next to a forum can now be double-clicked to mark an individual and sub forums to be marked as ALL Read. Who's On-line More Details screen to show the actual topic a user is looking at Quick Full Reply A New Button under the quick reply box "Switch to Full Reply" This will keep your text in the quick reply and place it into the full reply for you. Where you can access all the Active panel controls. Leaving a Private Message Notice When a someone removes themselves from a private message / topic a note will be added to the topic to let other participants know. Images with a Descriptions When using the File / Image Manager you can now add a description {caption} to appear underneath your picture. Available with the uploader only. Moods have Moved Changed the online /off line indicator next to users name, you can hover over it to see text of that mood. Who is in a Private Message private messages, it will now show all participants in each private message. E-mail with Forum Name as Type And Subject When you receive an e-mail from our forums, it will also contain the Forum and the Topic Title in the Subject line. Private Message E-mails Are now sent with full content to your e-mail address. Private Message Limit Bar You can now see in a progress bar in "My Messages" how many private message you can receive "Total" Happy Birthday Automatic Birthday Wished to members on their Birthday. Attachment Limits Members now have an Attachment limit total visible when using the file / image manager to assist them. This will inform you how many images you can upload. New Active Posts Now you can view the Last Active Posts or Active Topics New Gallery Forums These behave like a Gallery and are different from a Posting Forum. The Gallery forums have a unique Forum Icon looking like a camera. Gallery Pictures in a side Island. The latest Gallery Images can now be viewed in side islands. User Information On the Top Or Side of a post view? By visiting "My Preferences" you can now choose to view user details on the top of a post or at the side where it is now. You know where you see our avatars? View all Topics Started by a member. By visiting "A Member's Profile" select "Show User's Posts" and then select Topics Created or All Posts .

Lonkero Lonkero KiX Master Guru Registered: 2001-06-05 Posts: 22346 Loc: OK	I don't get the 7. what's different from current setup? 9 is not good. it will say: "automated mail powered by ubb.threads from kixtart.org forums; basic scripting, 'how can I start my machine with a script when I'm in shower?'" how's email client will show that can raise their hand $\:\)$ 10 is good. 13 is nice feature but the informational text above is darn l33t. images? wtf. 14 AWESOME! In last few versions I have had to write some cracks for the board to behave good. I like the fact that they are finally concentrating on that. 18 is darn good too. no need to do sql queries anymore. ...thanks doc for bringing this list to us. _________________________ ! download KiXnet

Something like corrupting the DB or the server getting really sloooooooooow or something like that. I guess you and Doc know more about that. I guess me and Allen are both still used to the search on the old board. Personally I like to search everything when I’m looking for something without having to change the time period. It is very annoying when you are searching for something that you are sure off being on the board but you don’t know where and search does not find it because you forgot the change the time period to search in. I agree there is also some blame to the one searching but I just prefer a default time period of 9 years so it just searches everything. Imho this will also help newbie’s finding stuff and learning themselves before asking "obvious" questions. _________________________ Mart - Chuck Norris once sold ebay to ebay on ebay.

A year is better than a week, but still think it should default to something like 3 years. Hey... while you are fixing things maybe put the "Who's Online" back across the top. I never have gotten over losing that link.

I didn't have the sidebar and hated not being able to see who's online. the link name is now "online users" and true, changed the search today. adding more years is not good, imo, as it does not provide any better results. if you really want to go to historic records, you know that and will change the date val. _________________________ ! download KiXnet

As for speed well in non scientific testing months ago when I was playing with it, there was not really much difference between a 1 year or a 9 year search. Both came back in under 1 second.

Well 7.2 beta 4 will go to public testing probably next week, though very little issues have cropped up in beta 3 so release of 7.2 might be within the next month - no guarantee though. I'm also not sure if I will update it or wait for 7.3 which will also include more granular security. Will see what the demand is (the board isn't exactly busy lately).

I mean, I know to change the search time frame, but we all know not everyone knows to change the date. If it takes one second to return search results from 1 or 3 years... what's the difference? Besides... before the 7.1 upgrade it was defaulting to like 5 years anyway. Ahh... whatever. I know how to search, screw the newbs. $;\)$

Most of the newer posts will give the average user what they're looking for without bringing back 50 pages of data to troll through. i.e. I think a 1 or 2 year period really is better for a new person, and as you say an experienced user already knows to increase the date period if they do want something from the archives of yester-year.
