I imagine that if your computer logon policy is unrestricted then you can log on using any domain that you like, as long as the computer can find the domain.

Wireless would probably be difficult though, you'd probably need a wired connection the first time round to establish credentials.

Simplest thing would be for you to set up a small lab disconnected from your main network and test. You only need to set up a domain controller with DNS/DHCP and plug it and your laptop into a (dedicated!) hub / switch.
