Hi Everyone,

I came across this yesterday. A customer had some extremely long file names in his IE cache and it wound up disabling his profile upload. I usually just go in with a command prompt and delete the errant file using the 8.3 naming syntax (first 6 characters followed by ~ followed by a 1, 2, etc). However it would work for two files. The last several characters of the file names were:

 Quote:
[1].gif

I think the square brackets were confusing the OS.

Does anyone have any other ideas (using kixtart or not) how to delete such files?

Thanks!

Brad V

If using roaming profiles, emptying temp inet files on browser close would be a good thing.

We stop temporary internet files roaming in two ways.

We specifically exclude the (default) temporary internet folder from roaming by policy.

On the Citrix farm we configure IE to create the folder under "Local Settings", which does not roam.

Hi Guys,

del *.* doesn't work and I don't have control over those decisions. It's a large contract and for some unknown reason I'm at the user end of things. \:\)

Thanks!

If "del *" doesn't work, you do not have enough NTFS security or so?

No, del *.* or del xxxxxx~1.gif just responds with file not found. I can't rename or move it. Don't worry about it. \:\)

I will try to pass on the point about either removing the temporary internet folder from the roaming profile or clearing the cache upon IE close.

Thanks!

When using roaming profiles, the Application Data folder should always be local and NOT folder redirected / server stored.
