Hey all. I've been working on music recording for the past year now. Since I've been part of the KORG community for a while I thought some of you may be interested in hearing it.

I've got 5 songs posted to Soundclick.com

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=670878

Thanks for listening, Matthew

Oy! Neat! Do you do it all by yourself? I'm getting a digital drumset soon (as in when I can afford the one I've been drooling over =) ). How do you make it, anyway? \:\)

Bjorn,

Yes, I do all the instrument and songwriting parts myself. (accept the drums which are audio "loop" files in ACID wav format. ACID format has a timing mechanism in it which allows you to stretch the audio file according to the tempo set in the audio editing program)

I have a pretty simple setup. Here's my equipment list:

Home built AMD 3500+ PC w/1GB ram, 160GB HDD
Prosonus Firebox (firewire audio/midi interface to PC. Think of it as a high-powered, external audio card)
BOSS GT-8 Guitar effects processor
Ibanez Electric Guitar
Ibanez Electric Bass
Carvin Electric/Acoustic Guitar
M-Audio Axiom 49 midi keyboard
Software: Cakewalk Sonar 6 Producer Edition

That's it. I purchased the software for $400. It's a very good multi-track audio mixing program that gives you plenty of control over your audio clips and levels and has many plug-ins for effects and embedding of other applications.

Thanks for listening,

Matthew

Bjorn, If you have an urge to be creative musically I highly recommend a simple DAW like the one I'm using. If you're more into techno and looping you can substitute Sonar with Ableton Live. By the way, both can be downloaded from their respective websites as demos.

Masken, You're the third person to make that comparison. (which is very interesting since these are three opinions for three different continents.) I had never heard of Mike Oldfield until my music was compare to his. I went to the local library and checked out "Tubular Bells". It has two 25 minute songs. Interesting stuff. I'm looking for some of his more contemparary stuff so I can hear it too. Do you have any recommended songs to listen to?

Maybe just some of his hits,
  • "In Dulci Jubilo"
  • "Moonlight Shadow" (with "Maggie Reilly")
  • "Shadow on the wall" (with "Roger Chapman")
  • "To France" (with "Maggie Reilly")

I love Mike Oldfield and have just about all his stuff. I'll be downloading your stuff as soon as I get home. Fave Oldfield atm is Platinum, Five Miles Out and Tubular Bells 3. But I recently dropped Crises back into the playlist.

Thanks CJ, I'll have to track down those Oldfield tracks and give them a listen. On Friday, an uncle of mine sent me some lyrics he wrote last summer, so I composed and recorded the music this weekend. I have some polishing to do but hope to have it finished by the end of this week (work gets in the way,.... again) ;\)
