Hello,

It appears that the KiXtart (4.53) @CPU macro incorrectly designates a Dual Core Xeon 5160 processor as "Intel Pentium Model 15", which is identical to what it shows for some of our laptops with a Core 2 Duo T7200 mobile processor.
I am pretty sure that our new server (54 kg) can't be used as a laptop ;\)

Our workstations with Xeon's are designated as "Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.40GHz".
So I would expect the Xeon 5160 to be designated as something like "Dual Core Intel Xeon CPU 5160", and the laptops as something like "Intel Core 2 Duo T7200".

This is not a big problem, but is the @CPU macro always being updated with the newest CPU's when a new version of KiXtart is released, or is a dedicated request needed for this kind of changes?

Regards,

Ed

A. Processor Identification is somewhat of a black art. ;\)
B. Intel releases processors more frequently than versions of Kix are released.
C. Take more vitamins and use the 54Kg system on your lap.

If you need up to the minute and accurate CPU identification, I'd create a table that you could maintain the ID to Description mapping in.

Glenn

PS - I recall Doc and I working on something like this a while back - it became more work than it was worth (in my opinion) to maintain, not to mention tying code to a config file.

Thanks Glenn.

This macro is used in a startup script, to do an inventory of all systems in the domain, collecting as much as possible info about the hardware, installed drivers and software, also to track changes.
Like I said, it is not a big problem, because CPU's are almost never changed.
But anyway, I have found another source for this info, in the registry:
READVALUE('HKLM\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0','ProcessorNameString')
So I will use that in stead of the @CPU macro.

Regards,

Ed

If you really need to have it you might want to try looking at this tool. I think it is also scriptable
