Getting the hang of it

Hi Guys,

I've downloaded the AddPrinter function by Allen Powell (Al_Po).
It sets up printers by lpr, share, com port etc.
Can someone please tell me if it creates the ip port first and then connects the printer to it? Or do I have to use another function to create the port first?

Thanks,
Jeremy

I only tested AddPrinter() with IP, LPT and COM setups. If LPR is what you are after, and it works, I would appreciate it if you would share your results.

Sorry for the confusion guys. Can someone please explain what an lpr port is? I always thought that an ip port was basically the same thing.

LPR is IP based, but its usually associated with the unix flavors, and generally requires some sort of user/queue name. I've only had minor exposure to it, so I really don't know all the particulars, and like I said, never tested it with the Addprinter UDF. As far as I know, the HP JetDirects (and most newer print servers) all use the RAW protocol based IP.
