ok, i'm not convinced, but thanks for the long explanation. Especially the Dim thing doesnt really avoid typos, but maybe it helps finding them. But for that you have a lot more typing. I'm a lazy one, and apart from that, more typing = more possibilities for typos.
Btw.: my (our ) script here is also very helpful for finding typos in variables (cause they will show up in the oprhan-section), without any extra work.
And about the global variables, i used to find that a feature, too.

does belong there. Ok, you could add the "$" to the $var in another section, but its not useless or a typo and it has nothing to do with the declaration.

The $RC=SetOption("Explicit","On") avoids typos, not the Dim. By using Explicit, you have to declare your vars. Make a typo and you will get a message that the var is not declared. You can also declare it as global.
When you declare your variables, you will not have any orphans anymore, except maybe for return values of UDF functions. If you find other orphans, whell, they are declared but not used.
