Guys,

does anyone know of a cool tool to monitor the performance of servers in a GUI dashboard-style?

Am looking for monitoring CPU, (Free) RAM, DiskUsage, NicUtilization etc. of approx. 15 servers...

Well we are in the process of deploying Nimbus here, it cost us a significant amount more, but we are also monitoring much more.

It does more than only monitoring. You can use it for proactive management. Think your manager will love this tool

Anyone got any experience with MRTG (www.mrtg.org)? Could be something too I guess.

We use MRTG, but unless you are good with MIBS it can be a real PIA to set up.

Then again there is always Perfmon

If you're interested in going Microsoft you could get MOM. I have SMS and MOM and SMS integrate fairly well (infact, the next version of both products will be combined into one program)

If you have HP servers than Insight Manager is a free tool. It also has limited abilities to monitor Dell servers as well.

Well you didn't say that at first - yes Insight Manager will alert you till you're tired of being alerted.

There is also a fairly inexpensive product from GFI called GFI Network Server Monitor. A collegue of mine uses it and is fairly satisfied. It can page you when certain events occur. www.gfi.com

(P.S. I also use there spam filtering "MailEssentials and MailSecurity". It does a fair job. It'll do better once I integrate with Exch2003)

If you've got less than 10 servers, go for MOM Workgroup Edition. The best you can get for the money.

Yes we've used MOM as well and it has many tools and methods but really think he would be happy with Insight.

Surprised any shop that size though hasn't alredy installed it. Our HP/Compaq rep have always let us know about it and offered assistance with it when required for years at my last job.

In fact MOM relies on the underlying Insight Agents to be able to monitor all the low level details of the HP Server.
It can do a lot of WMI stuff on it's own, but then you're really missing out on details since the Insight Agents were specifically written to gather the details on the system much more so than WMI alone, as many of these other packages would do as well.
