It's sad - would also want to go for an alternative, but I also think that most wants a PDF-reader that supports Adobe-generated PDF's (all third party readers always lack support for something, be it commercial use, encryption, forms, or other other stuff). And after all - even though the Adobe Reader is bulky, it's the only MSI-alternative that I know of, and it also supports customization.

I look at it more simply. 1. Adobe invented PDF. 2. Adobe has a free reader. 3. It supports MSI Deployment & customization. 4. The client computers can handle Adobe Reader without problem.
hmm... adobe made pdf but monopoly has always turned out to be bad and I don't care if my reader lacks something like crypting. the file format is for preserving the printing layout.
if you use it for something else, you are misusing it. like adobe seems to wish all of us do.

Well with versions 5 and 6 yes an alternative was nice because Adobe was S L O W as heck. However I don't find that to be true with the new 7.x versions. They now launch in milli-seconds on my systems. Typically well under 1 sec to launch the reader so I'm fine / happy with Adobe as the reader.
doc, wrong again. disable the quick launch helper and it will be as slow as before. the difference now is that instead of loading the 1000 dll's into your ram when you run the program, version 7 does it when your system boots.
which as annoying. but you must have a super computer as you haven't noticed the sluggishness of your system.

Not wrong Jooel. I know how it works and yes I'm fine with it. Have some systems here with only 256MB of RAM and it works fine. But hey, to each his own. I'm not a salesman for Adobe, if you want to use something else that's fine.
