Problem: I need user input, IE a prompt for them to input their building number and room number. What is the easiest way to look at this WITHOUT having to have something installed across the network??

I looked at KixForms as a viable solution but it looked like my clients would need the KixForms DLL registered on all of my systems in order for those calls to be able to work correctly???

Is there some inherent function that I can prompt a user and have that input entered into a variable so I can write it to an INI file?

thanx as always guys.

NO
but you could use Excel or IE.

So when you're talking about IE.. are you talking about spawning a webpage that prompts the user for input? I guess I could do that, I was just hoping there would be a built-in function for acquiring user input in KiX. Oh well.

Also, after I post this, I'm leaving for ID to camp. Will be back later. Just letting Les and anyone else who *may* post in case they ask a Q and I'm not here to respond in a timely manner.

Thanx for the info Les.

By a built-in function, I assume you mean a GUI interface. KiX can of course prompt for input at the DOS-like console.

With AD GPO software deployment and KiXforms now being available as an MSI, it would not be that hard to roll it out to the users.

If you are looking just for a simple input look in the manual at GETS, and ask away.

So does GETS work like READ for Unix???

takes the keyboard input, sets it to a var and then proceeds with an Enter key stroke?

from the manual
Quote:

GetS

Action: Reads a line of characters from the keyboard until the key is pressed, and stores the result in a variable.

Syntax: GETS $x
