nakedavenger nakedavenger Fresh Scripter Registered: 2006-04-10 Posts: 20	jbond.spk just won't cut it. I'd like to PLAY FILE "mission impossible.spk" or the equivalent PLAY "some complex string" when the login script completes.... Anyone know where I can dig up the first little bit of the Mission Impossible Theme? Anyone want to prove they are a music nerd and build it for me? dun dun DUN DUN dun dun DUN DUN....

nakedavenger nakedavenger Fresh Scripter Registered: 2006-04-10 Posts: 20	The login script that I inherited is the bane of the company - it takes forever to run, has NO error checking, and the users constantly complain that 'this little black box is sitting there' but they don't know why or what it does. The new script forces itself on top, tells them in plain language what it's doing and uses colored text to alert them to errors. It waits for a keystroke at the end and tells them a level of success. This way they get visual confirmation that things are OK or not, and the helpdesk can actually ask them WHERE their script choked if necessary. The music will be a little 2-second blip at the end to accompany the colored text summary - Mission Impossible for success, something depressing for a fail - dun dun DUN!

It's like putting nutrition labels on food packages - people like to see it even if they don't really know what it means because the alternative is Big Brother just patting them on the head and saying "Just eat it - it's good for you" Morale and productivity tank, profits go down, turnover is rampant, and all because they didn't get to see a little glimmer of IT humanity in the morning. Oh yeah... did I mention I'm looking for muzak files?

Use the "the progress bar" - got to get "the progress bar" ;0) Besides - (seriously) - the progress bar is more "business-like/professional" in my opinion. Not sure that muzak is appropriate for the office - idk - its your office ;0)

We know you build it, we know you like it (and so do lots of us including me) and now we know you want to brainwash everybody and put sweet and nice kixforms thoughts in our heads WTF Get out of my head, get out, get out!! Just rattling your chain Shawn. Kixforms and its progress bar is the way to go in stead of a key stroke by the users and some music at success and/or failure. These .spk files are fun to play with but do not belong in a production environment imho. Unless you play some kind of really cool music using your 5.1 surround speaker set so everybody in the office/street knows your logon was successful meaning you still know how to write your username and you remembered your password. Thats what we use for production (honest - no Kixforms) - in fact, I wrote PBAR specifically for our prod login scripts.

The best I can offer in that area is to do some Google searching for them to see if someone has something. Though not a .SPK file you can still play music,video,sound via this UDF. PlayMediaFile() - Plays a media file, either audio or video using mplay32.exe http://www.kixtart.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=128878 I've used it around the Holidays and it worked just fine for all of our systems.

As for finding more .spk files that might prove to be a bit more difficult. A quick search on Google didn't come up with too much. Perhaps a more refined or deeper search will come up with something. This won't play with KiXtart that I know of but since it applies to the built-in speaker I figured I'd go ahead and post it. (The midi one plays from sound card, not speaker) Wizard Master Control Program (for midi) http://www.wizardmaster.com/bludgeonsoft/wmcp/index.html 0303 (for speaker) http://www.wizardmaster.com/bludgeonsoft/0303/index.html But using the UDF should work just fine especially for a quick clip. You can show the player or hide it at your descretion.

If you do choose to use a .wav or similar - then you may want to check if the system has a sound card enabled or not or if not that important just ignore it and let it rip.
