Any of you HTML / BB specialists have any thought about building a KF app to build code for posting of UDFs?

It would be nice if it could 'import' a udf from the forum, allow you to edit it, and then replace it.

There is a version of PP-UBB floating around that I think DOC and Glenn worked on. I have it, but I'm not sure I have distribution rights ...

Well that is normal Post Prep that Glenn has mostly worked on and works well, but I think Radimus is wanting a bit more of automated UDF posting Template if I read him right.

I've spoken with Glenn in the past and we may work on an updated GUI for Post Prep but as usual day to day work often gets in the way.

Of note, though that Jooel has already fixed the main issue of why Post Prep was firt written by Jooel and Jochen in that you can now COPY/PASTE code directly from the the board to your editor and maintain the formatting.

Post Prep is pretty much only good for color formatting to make it look nice, with one BIG caveat.
Normal users on the board CAN NOT edit UBB/HTML Post Prep code that they post on the board, only Admins and Moderators have sufficient rights to go back and edit Post Prep code.

So given the limited use of Post Preps editing abilities I'm not sure how much time or effort would be put into a GUI for Template type UDF posting when only about a half dozen users could use it and edit it.

I'm able to modify the NEW posts I've made with the PP-UBB code. It's the old html versions that are broke and cannot be updated... but I guess if we are talking about an automated solution, you are right, it would never work with the old posts.

The version that I last worked on, with certain enhancements, is version 1.0.3.4gb. The enhancements include buttons for HTML or UBB encoding, and creation of a variable name by function list. This was the precursor to the sanity udf. I also heavily commented the code parsing engine that Jooel and Jochen created.

I'll try to get a zip file up on my web server by the weekend.

Glenn,

I'm not sure that's what Radimus was meaning.

I think he was looking for something more in the way of automating the UDF posting process with something like a Template.

If you have a bit of free time then perhaps we can continue to work on some enhancements and a new GUI like we discussed in the past.

I'm thinking of something like a template that will post appropriately.

Also, in similar to kfd that can open a posted udf in the form (given the URL) that will read the UDF and populate the template if possible, allow you to make changes, and then edit the post.

I'm certain the edit portion is more difficult to manage, but this will allow us (mods) to edit the UDF lib easier, enforce the standards, and provide an easy way for others to comply to the standards.

I would think that if during the read of an existing UDF, if it couldn't parse all the fields, it would just dump it all into a textbox (comments) that would allow manual cut & paste into the correct fields

Yeah, I understand. Just wanted to qualify the version and features that my release had, since there are several floating around.

Might be able to do something on a go-foward basis with tags as required, but seriously doubt you could do such with pre-existing UDFs unless an inordinate amount of time was spent on coding it to handle the exceptions and oddities of some of the posts.

Good idea though Rad.

The hard part will be the actuall editing of an existing post.

then the insertion/filtering of the html or bbcode to make it look nice.

If the "import" routine can't find the appropriate tags, it should just insert all the text into a text box (comments) and the data that should be in specific fields can be copied/pasted by hand into the correct field on the form.

Another nice feature could be a "Favorites" which would be to filter on your boardID, to make it easier of people using this to update their own UDFs

so, you boys planning to colorize your own UDFs?
I can build you the template and the edit code just fine.

given that you don't touch the UDFs of other ppl.

Hi Jooel, I was wondering when you'd show up. You've been a bit silent lately but I see this at least got you to post

Yeah I would assume, hope that Radimus meant editing of one's own UDF - Though I suppose a Moderator or Admin might have rights to do so, aside from maybe a Long Line issue I don't really recall any Moderators editing UDF scripts.

That would be great if you could work on some code like that Jooel.

Hmmm ... hey Ron, you talk about a new postprep, and I see you posting colorized code from time to time.

Is this any different from the one Jooel(Conversion Engine Pimp Daddy) and I wrote?
Can you edit posts without fragging the format with this one ?

Yeah it's basically the code you guys did with some minor mods to it. Glenn also did a UBB one, but I personally don't like posting with it, but I see Chris sometimes uses it.

Think there are a few more little things that could maybe be done with it and an updated GUI

Now the idea of UDF Template looks like it could be a cool feature to put in the GUI.

I can edit to my hearts content with no problem, but I don't think a normal user can, but I think Al said he could so if that's true then maybe normal users could use it.
Would need to do some more testing in that area.
