Does anyone know if there is away to automate an export from an Exchange Mailbox to a PST file. We have to export multiple mailboxes and i am wondering if there is some way to script this.

Sadly to say we are running on a crippled exchange 5.5 box and not sure how long it is going to stay up. We would like to create a new exchange 2003 site but we have other dependencies that are not supported under 2003 with out an upgrade. I would like to be able to archive emails if the server ever crashes again.

Well I'm sort of in the same boat here. I know Bryce did something with reading them, but not sure if anyone has done anything with Exporting them or not.

Here is the post I was thinking about and it is not for Exporting mailboxes (I don't think).

Hopefully Bryce will chime in here soon.

Search the entire exchange server.... all accounts!!

Doc, that code just lets you move/copy mail from on mailbox to another. I had to come up that code because the lawyers for one of my clients were wanting keyword searched of everyones email box. Nasty stuff.

ExMerge is what you will want to use to export mailboxes to a pst file. very good tool, i have used it a lot.

Great, thanks for the feeback Bryce and bsockle

Do you know of any other tool to just extract to .PST without the use of another Exchange Server?

This tool says you need at least the Tools of Exchange 2003 installed to run. Can it just do the export to .PST and then stop there?

Whit "this tool" you mean exmerge?
If so, yes you can just extract the mail to a .pst file and stop right there.
We use it to make daily backups of our exchange server because we do not have an exchange agent (yet)

BTW: Great stuff to search the mailboxes bryce. I’ll have to keep it in a safe place for future use or something. Never know what they come up with tomorrow and then there is no need to re-invent the wheel right

Great, thanks Mart. I'll install the tool and give it a shot.

Hopefully great for saving .PST for employees that have left the Company and we don't want their mailbox on the Server anymore.

Well, we have not that many people leaving whose mail should be stored somewhere safe. In the rare cases we do need to we just export it from outlook also to a .pst file and burn it to a CD/DVD if there is enough to fill one. After the export the mailbox in question is deleted from the server. Imho exmerge is not suitable for this if it is just one mailbox now and then just an export from outlook is easier.

Well that's how I currently do it, and it is a PAIN.

I have to modify accounts to allow logon to the e-mail, then setup a profile, then do the export.

Was hoping I could do it easier without doing any profile stuff. Click on mailbox to export, and export

I'll still give it a shot and see for myself though.

No profile stuff needed.
I just open the box in question as an extra mailbox and tell the export wizard to export from that mailbox when it asks what to export.

I just wish Exmerge supported Public Folders. It works great for mailboxes though...

Wow, that's great. That is more like it. It is much better than me setting up profiles to export these stupid mailboxes.

It would be nice to allow different credentials from the application.

Thanks again everyone.
