Hi all,There has been a lot of discusions on this board, on which editor to use for KiX-scripts. I just thought i would share this link to a new freeware editor: KiXscripts Editor The KiXscripts.com Editor 1.0 beta features... - Wizards to simplify the creation of code for: MessageBox, ReadProfileString, WriteProfileString, CHR and Color!
- Intellisense for automatic syntax highlighting as you type a command.
- Macro completion; just type "@" and a drop-down list of macros appears for selection.
- Execute and debug scripts from the editor, optionally instruct command window to stay open after execution
- Tabbed navigation for switching between loaded scripts
- Jump to label
- Right-click on keyword offers link to KiXscripts.com corresponding entry in online reference library
- Error code display tool (Win32 error code lookup)
- Variable list view
- Toolbar buttons for indent/outdent comment/uncomment
- Launch command prompt menu item
- Insert environment variable wizard using examples of values on current system.
- Select display colors for commands, comments, numbers, operators, strings and text.
- Auto indent feature can account for language scope.
- Many more features are already included, and more are on the way!
I think it looks very promissing, the intellisense feaure is specially helpfull, showing the syntax of the function you are just entering (like the VB-editor in the office-suite)
I know there is a lot off hardcore WordPad users on this board, this is NOT for you, don't try it, you might change editor to the KiXscripts editor For those of you that are using other freeware editors with syntax-highlighting, give it a try, it is a dedicated editor for KiXtart scripts. -Erik

Thanks for the tip, Kholm. It's a really nice kix editor, and the intellisense is really good.

Why not using VIM? It's a stable editor which recognized the kixtart language and a few hunderd other languages. And very important, it's freeware! You can find more info about it at www.vim.org

Very nice. I've been using UltraEdit (with the KIX stuff in wordfile.txt), which has been fine, but KixScripts editor has more KIX specific functionality.Don't like the header, though. And a function to convert text to and from upper and lower case would be keen. Is this program going to remain free or is this just a teaser?

No, this is not a freeware editor; there will be a fee for the final release. Over a thousand hours have been poured into the development of this tool and web site just to get it going. We want to provide something new- an editor geared specifically toward KiXtart (and not just syntax highlighting). Lots of great ideas are still on the table and we are receiving more every day. KiXscripts editor simply cannot become what we all want it to become as a side project. The price has not yet been established, but our aim is to keep it less than the cost of similar editors available.I would be interested to learn what everyone likes about their selections above, please hop over for a quick poll: KiX Editor Poll Thank you, and happy scripting (whatever you use!)

The question is, who will pay money for an application when a number of free alternatives already exist?I use that wonderful application that comes with Windows, called Notpad. Works everytime, nothing to install and I can use any machine to edit the script. Superb! Surely, the KixScripts Editor should be in the same vane as Kixtart itself! I think the charities would rather have some cash. [ 08 January 2002: Message edited by: Ghost ]
