hmm.. I've come over some cases now where I'd find this function useful. An optional DEL /r -switch to delete to the recycle bin instead of "hard deleting" would have its usefulness I think! Especially also with KiXforms in mind.

No it can not, it's actually a bit more complex than that on NT class systems. On Windows 9x you could drop it in a common folder, but the others need to understand multiple languages, ACL, Date/Time

I wouldn't mind such a switch either, but would also like the switch to include an EMPTY RECLY BIN switch as well.

I think Jooel is sort of right here: http://www.kixtart.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=110862&an=0&page=0&vc=1. The script will delete the files you say it should delete. If you are not sure if you want to delete them then just don't delete them or move the files to some backup folder or something like it and empty this folder if you are sure the files are not needed any more.

The DOS del command also does not put the deleted files into the recycle bin. By default my recycle bin is turned off.

But.....an optional switch in the del command I can support because it will make life a little easier for some people. As long as it does not get the default action and del by default does del and not del to recycle bin. Sometimes a script uses and after use deletes files a user does not have to see so if del puts it into the recycle bin by default you could get some weird situation when users restore the files from the recycle bin.

@Mart, I really don't agree that Lonk has "solved it". See my comments in that thread. I agree though that default behaviour should be "hard-delete", both for backwards compability, and the fact that it's a script processor.

Ok, ok, ok. We all know jooel can be a bit direct in stating his opinion and hanging on to it but he has got the basics right IMHO, the recycle bin is only for garbage not for backup that's why I switch it off.
Making a proper backup if needed before deleting stuff is the preferred way IMHO.

Like I said earlier I can support the -r parameter or something like it for the del command but I'm not going to use it right now. I see the use of in some cases. So I will support it cause it's could be useful in future scripts and in the cases you gave in your comments in the other thread.

Well whether one uses the recycle bin or not isn't really relevant... it's a function that comes with the OS, whether one chooses to uses it or not. But just as a reflection, the recycle bin and VSC has saved me from tape loading and frustration numerous of times I think Lonk hangs himself up on the word "backup" and just see tapes and ntbackup before his eyes?
