I've always thought that most of the snow on earth is located on the northern and southern edges of the globe.
well, seems it ain't true.
I don't have any nice pictures but in the news in the TV they showed images from JAPAN where the snow amount in last month reached 4 meters.
and, it wasn't just snowing.
it remained there!
all the houses were covered by snow and ppl and all the vehicles moved inside some small allies digged inside the snow.

weird looking stuff.

I haven't skate on the ice since years while when I was young you could skate every winter....

These pictures shows how the winter in the Netherlands should be:

It looks like the winter is moving to other places in the world....

No, I don't miss snow - it is all around me - ice too!

4 meters

I believe that I read some years back that Ottawa/Montréal gets the highest average snowfall in Canada and I believe the largest recorded yearly fall in this area is near the 4 meter mark. Average temperature is also an important factor - Edmonton gets approximately 1/4 of this region's snow but it stays a lot longer.

Radimus,

A favourite past time in Canada is telling stories of southern Americians arriving at our borders in July with skis on their cars - I have yet to observe this phenomena but I am hoping to see it one day.

Jack, The funniest thing about canadians here, is watching their milk white skinned selves going to the beach in December while it is 60 degrees and windy.

Of course, UV rays ensure that they do not stay white long

Les,

Reminds me of when I was kid. I lived half way up a mountain & they use to plow our road with a gaint cat the size of our house (I was only 10 then & this might have biased my perspective). The reason it sticks in my mind is the school bus was always right behind the cat - in all the years we lived there I never missed a school day due to snow. I envied those city kids who got a day off every time the snow exceeded a foot.

Rad,

When I lived in Edmonton (the coldest place I ever lived), young males tended to go outside in shirts or sweaters as soon as the temperature hit about -5 C (abot 30 F). A heat wave in July was 75 F. Given this perspective 60 F is down right balmy.

PS: I am home sick today so I thought I would visit you guys.

Jooel,

It is a play on words - a pun: cold can refer to the temperature outside my house (and indirectly snow - the topic of the thread) or it can be a variant of the flu - my illness.

It is a very bad pun though but I do favour bad puns.

Of course you're confused. Texas and Cold are not synonymous

Now Texas and Big are synonymous

In my delirious state - I confused DOC & Bryce - even after Jooel pointed this out - it passed over my head.

I apologise Bryce your jokes are not dumb. The real culprit has fortunately stepped forward.

Minor deleterious effect. Look at it this way... we got to bump our post counts.
