Jay66UK Jay66UK Lurker Registered: 2006-01-05 Posts: 2	Obviously I'm a newb I have a school with an NT4 domain with Win98 and WinXP Pro clients. I have a main networked printer plus in each classroom a local shared printer. One suite of computers, 2 clients and a laptop per classroom. Our internet access is through an external proxy server. For the Win98 machines I set the appropriate printers and proxy as Administrator and it ripples through to all users. For the new WinXP Pro machines I appear to need to set these settings for every user...there are 50+ such machines and 30+ users! Any pointers please to how I can sort this using Kixtart? Many thanks in advance.

NTDOC NTDOC Administrator Registered: 2000-07-28 Posts: 11634 Loc: Space	Hello and welcome to the board. Well a GPO might be the best, but some/most can be done by logon script and/or remote Admin script. There are UDFs to perform just about any task you can think of. Do some reading/searching and then let us know if you need specific help. You can set IE settings during logon and map printers too.

Radimus Radimus Moderator Registered: 2000-01-06 Posts: 5187 Loc: Tampa, FL	Typical proxy settings are in HKCU, so permissions aren't an issue. The only real issue is if win98, NT, XP use the same key. Jay66UK Jay66UK Lurker Registered: 2006-01-05 Posts: 2	OK...I have used the Group Policy Editor following MS article 307882 and set the local Group Policy for the proxy server values using the internet explorer settings, and this works for the sample of users I have tried. As the XP machines only number a dozen or so, and as the proxy settings change in geological time, I can do this on each machine without bother. So now I guess I am down to sorting the printers...any pointers into the thousands of threads the search throws up would be gratefully received Edited by Jay66UK (2006-01-05 03:03 PM)
